Critical Mass UL12's

Wow, I guess me and kmanian are the only ones that ACTUALLY used them
Well it is time for me to chime in. kmanian, you and I have done business with those subs, they are the nicest sounding subs on the market. However, when you look at the price, comparing subs, there are quality sounding subs that sounds just as good with out costing an arm and a leg. The guy that ran down the list is right. Also the Nightshade sounds really, really good. If I had to rate 1-10 on the sub comparison; UL12 being a 10, Alpine type x 9.6; Solo X 9.4 (the old silver cone), Sundown Nightshade 9.2 (sounds awsome for a comp sub)

Those were the best sounding subs I had comparing to the UL12. But when you look at the price, I would rather have those three then the UL12. And as you know I can afford the ul12.

Type x and a solo x are on your list //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif There's a lot better sounding subs out there.

Also remember that I have a standing order, that if you want to sell them back I will take them.

And I do agree with the fact that it is subjective and there are a bunch of variables when different installs are mixed into the equation.

Kmanian, you bought mine through-jybfan04!!!! And yes Type x and Solo x is on my list. Before UL12 Car and Driver magazine rated the Alpine Type X the best sounding sub above JLW7. And the solo x ten is very tight. Try it out, you will be surprised.

ah yes thats right, sorry for the mixup:crazy:

what the hell I will give it a try

that is the type x

If space is an issue the UL might be the way to go. Big power in a small package would be worth it for some people.
UL 12 is not a space saver subwoofer!

The lower the Q, the smaller the space you can put it in. The UL's Q is VERY high.

I think people are getting confused with ported systems vs sealed.

dude, do you want me to send you the entire spec sheet, at the end of the day you are way off, in practical, the smaller works better, if you put a UL in a sealed box bigger than 1.6 you can call it IB and it will get slap happy.

It seams that as there are forum boners, Critical mass is the forum ANTI-boner.
Yes, because even though I have praised the UL series in due ways, I said it made little fiscal sense compared to cheaper subs, so clearly there is some major forum ANTI-boner. Right?
Im sorry if me stating the UL series prices itself right out of practicality pisses you off, doesn't piss you off but makes you act like it, or what ever, its simply the truth. Your reply is that Im wrong because its the best mix of SQ and SPL you've ever heard and money has nothing to do with it. Uhm... okay? I dont think you are understanding my point.

You seem to be upset that there is no forum boner FOR the UL, not that there is some forum anti-boner. Most people here could care less about such an expensive piece, because most of us remain more toward the center of the price-to-performance bell curve.

The fact you are currently running a nightshade is no evidence you are not biased for anything CMASS. Everyone here knows you are the resident CMASS fan. The simple fact that me mentioning the UL's are not competitive when price is considered sent you and I into this argument, and not for the first time, is a pretty good example that you are in fact biased for them. It happens, get over it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hey I wast trying to start an arguement or rally up a forum boner, I just figured more people then 3 on this entire forum has used them!

Your main arguement is price, I got these subs for FAR FAR less than retail, so your price arguement is no more. That being said, are they worth what I paid?

Yes x10

We have already addressed that point. One guy getting a great deal over the internet on one speaker does not make that the price everyone pays for a UL. If CMASS wants to drop the UL's to a more reasonable price, yes you'd see my argument dry up. But as of yet, they have not.
"Your main arguement is price"

Actually my only argument is price. Yes the UL's lack in other ways, but no different than every sub ever made. Every speaker is nothing more than a series of compromises that come together to form a final assembly. No I would never consider a UL for a ground pounder system, or an SPL one obviously. But yes I would certainly consider one for a more SQ/SQL minded setup, if I wanted to run sealed and had 2kw+ on tap. But that's a pretty small niche in the market, add to that a hefty price tag and you have yourself a couple pretty good reasons why these subs will never get the attention that a DD 9500, RE XXX or even a JL W7 will. *shrug*

I dont think you started any argument. Hell, this is just how we talk around here anyway.

I get what you're saying about a small niche, people want the best bang for the buck. I fall in that small niche wanting a good SQ/SQL setup, and It performs well beyond my needs.
