I want to build a rediculous system...without any money concerns involved i want to put a 18" solo-x in my geo metro. What amp should i run...wirers...is an extra battery needed. How do i build a custom box all that good stuff...please just offer your opinion dont be a jackass. I have 2 alpine type x's right now with a memphis 1100 amp i know very little about the big powered subs like the solo-x so just trying to learn.

aot of 0 gauge wire.. 3,000 rms amp.. I'd go with a M3 or sundown or Massive.. I'd do 2 or 3 trunk batteries and about (rec airspace) tuned to the mid-low 30s... shood wang purdy rough.. My DD does

Why not get a 9518g or similar???

Just throwing money at something isn't going to guarantee good results, the magic happens in the install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

best advice. thats a lot of money to hope you get it right. either read/learn or hope you can find a shop that actually knows what they're doing to do it for you.

Become friends with somebody who actually knows a lot about audio. See if there's anybody on here who lives by you who'd being willing to show you the ropes. I know a lot of people would like setting up a nice system if somebody's got the money to pay for it.

geo metro 2 door or 4 door ?

id take a guess and say that your stock alternator is all you can use.

and it proly makes nothing for power = wich *****

but

you can add a fiew big batterys in the rear to keep voltage at respectable levels when your bumping good.

your going to need to figure out how to fit all this in your car.

multiple batterys - and good sub enclosure. its a juggling game.

there will also be un believable rattles in your car when you get high power sub in there.

so the idea of completely gutting your interior and using sound deadning material is a good idea ( doors / roof / hatch or trunk )

the biggest thing you need to do is design the box for the sub to be ideal for your car.

box is 60% of whats important. crappy subs can sound great in good boxes for them.

good subs can sound crappy in poo poo boxes.

ported boxes are tuned to a certan frequency where they perform best.

lets say 30 hz = notes from 30 to 45 hz will realley be amazing in a box tuned to 30 hz

and start to fall off so to sepak from 45hz on up.

actually finding a boxes tuning requires alot of complicated math on how long and big the port is vs the air space inside the box, vs the speakers in and out movment.

thats why its eazy to mess it up.

also - a box is to be built to each and every single sub's exact specs to perform at its best.

or get what you want from it. box built for 12" jbl sub will be completely diffrent for a box built for a 12" dd sub.

you asked about amp also - forgot that one

hifonics bxi line = cheap solid power. a little over rated - but still solid good amps.

the sex = sundown audio amps.

im personaly not a fan of kicker amps - they run hot - and some dont like 1 ohm load.

If money is no concern, just go to the best shop in your area and let them do everything.

Now i thought this site was for car audio nuts...wheres the fun in letting somone else do all the work for you lol....i don't wanna be the guy who drives around in bumpin to somebody else' hard work

Like some helpful people said.. make sure you fully understand box/port design before you build. There's an equation on google somewhere for port length.. since you're new I'd recommend a box w/ a slot port.. simple and traditional. Just do i on a large scale.. whatever you're recommended size is. The port length determines the requency the box is tuned to.. I don't know fully for sure, but I believe it peaks at that frequency.. or something like that. Seems like 32hz is pretty popular.

Measure twice, cut once, and then when you have a good quality box everything else will fall into place.

If any of that info's wrong just correct me plz n thnx.

As for an alt.. upgrading = easy.. if there's a bolt on. I've never looked for HO alts so I'm not sure. However, if they don't make one for your car you'll just have to do some custom work. Read up on how charing systems works, and determine what system your car has, then find a suitable replacement HO alt, and fabricate a custom mounting bracket if necessary.

im going to try to do this without giving you too much of a hard time, you can get an audioque hdc 18 and a used bxi 2000 for just the price of the solo x itll "wang" just as hard, probably hit the lows better and sound better and be equally impressive cuz instead of people going "oh its a solo x thats why its loud" they'll go "WTF is that?!?.. and where can i get one"

and i know your probably unfamiliar with audioque... http://www.audioque.com/aq/HDCSeries.htm

http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=375950

so 345 for the sub, 200 for the amp, your GOING TO NEED a battery with that little car, yellow top up front and a deka 9a31 out back will probably be sufficient. bout 100 for the yellow top and 150 for the deka. also going to need approx 50ft(guessing, 17 from front to back, 3 for ground from amp, 3 for ground from 2nd battery, give or take 15 for big 3, 5 from second bat to amp... and a little extra) of 1/0 power cable for big 3 and for amp powering.

http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?category=KLMX%20Kable 1.75/ft unless you can find it cheaper on the boards.

so lets total it up.

sub - 345

amp - 200

yellow top - 100

deka intimidator 9a31 - 150

wiring - 100ish

terminals/fuse holder/fuses ETC - 100ish

wood - 60ish (going to probably need 2 sheets, 4.5 cubes @ 38hz...72 in^2 port)

so... grand total 1055$.... approx. my suggestion would be to give someone on here your max dimensions for the box, have them design you a box down to the size of each panel, go to home depot and have the guy runnin the panel saw cut your box out for you, all you gotta do is glue n screw, like putting a puzzle together. don't forget to brace

really, you're the first person i've ever heard say kicker amps run hot, i know mine doesn't. what kicker amps don't like 1 ohm? Maybe the ones rated at 2 ohms.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suicide.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
