hey guys my mids blew up and i need some help.

i posted a thread about a week ago about geting some mid bass from my comp set and after takeing your advise i find that my mids are toast.

the comp set is a mb quart pvf 216 6.5 componet set with mb quarts big wide sphere tweets.

my tweets are mounted flush in the pillar by the front windsheld in my camaro so if i just get a new comp set i would have to buy new pillars then cun em up for the new tweets so i really dont want to do that.

the componet set is only about 8 monts old(got them right before xmas) and it sucks to have this happen.

i got them from sonicelectronix so i dont know if i even have a warranty on them so im thinking about just geting a seperate set of mids and just swap them out and leave the rest of my quart set alone.

can that be done?

the quarts never really had good mid bass and when i turn them up i can hear distortion and the right side mid pops.

i found these on woffersetc so how would some thing like this be?

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=6220

if not what should i go with if its even possible to use a different mid with the quart x-overs.

well the gains on my amp are only about half way maybe just a hair more.

i think the woofer got wet and thats what caused it to blow. the car is a camaro so its not sealed up that great but i deadened the door good and i have those foam speaker baffles that i put in after i found that my mid was wet and there is a hole about the size of a quarter in the back of the baffle for venting i just put some of those to prevent them from geting wet.

my amp is rated at 75wx4(memphis belle 1300)and i think they put out a little more that that so i think the power is about perfect for the quarts so i dont think i over powered them.

you would overpower them if you clip them

well if i bridge my amp it will put out 230wx2.

i have a friend who sells cdt audio and will sell me a set of cdt es600 gold woffers for 149 so ill probly be going with those. will the rest of my system hold up to that power like the tweets?

oh and thanks for the help and fast reply's.

It may, but you need to make sure you set the gain PROPERLY with a DMM. I can't even express how sick I am of people saying "It shouldn't have blown, the gain was only halfway up". The gain is NOT afucking volume nob. It compensates for the input voltage coming out of the head unit.

You can take any 1000w sub and blow it with a 100w amp if you push it into clipping

ill check in to the warranty tomorrow morning. i normally adjust my amp's with my ears and im not shure on how to use a dmm to adjust my amp. point me in the right direction on how to do this.

that link gives me an idea on how to do it but what hz do i need and where do i get a cd?

whats the volts im going for?

the max i have my hu on when i listening to a cd is 25-26 and its a alpine so it goes to 35.

ok for mids im not sure the freq to play when tuning the amp, someone else will answer for you on that, but i think it might be a 100hz tone?

you can download it from realmofexcursion.com in the downloads section. burn it to a cd, and turn off all the equalizer presets on the head unit, turn in like 5 numbers past your normal everyday volume, so you have some headroom for safety, and plug in the dmms probes into the amp. turn the gain knob till you reach the disired voltage, and you're golden. plug in the speakers and see how they sound

realmofexcursion also has a voltage calculator, you type in how many watts and ohms your running and ittl give you a voltage number.

To set the gain for the mids, I would use a 1000Hz sine wave. You can download test tones at realmofexcursion.com. Just click on the Downloads tab.

As for voltage, here is the formula

Square root(Deisred Power x Impedence)= Channel output voltage.

So if, for example, you need 100w at 4 ohms, it would look like this

SR(100 x 4)= SR(400) = 20 volts
