Couple questions

Amp: 2X75 @4ohm. Bridged and run parallell to two SVC 4ohm subs. The amp would be running at 300x1@2ohms so each sub would be seeing 150watts. Is this right? Also can I really do damage to a set of components or 5x8's if I feed them more power than they are rated for? The way I look at it is as long as there is not any distortion, clipping or popping they should be fine. I plan on giving my components 125 and the same for the 5x8's. The components are rated at 100W RMS and I believe the 5x8's are 60-80W RMS. I feel this should be ok. What are your thoughts? Thanks

Yes, though I would caution you to verify that the amplifier is 2ohm mono stable. Most 2-channel amps are not.

Depends on how much over we are talking. But yes, you can and will damage speakers with too much power, "clean" or not.

That's not true. Speakers can only handle so much power both thermally and mechanically. Exceed those limits and damage WILL occur.

Distortion and clipping doesn't damage speakers. Power does.

Be sure to set the gain conservatively on the 5x8's, and don't use any type of boost, such as in an EQ or the like.

Actually sending twice the rated power to a speaker normally spells death for the speaker.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know. The amps are Orions 275SX and are capable of running at 1ohm stable. Although in Mono I keep them no lower than 2ohms. Best amps ever.

BTW, sweet Tool quote.
