Could you guys comment on my build

Hi everyone, I just joined this forum to solicit your opinion! I had an upgraded sound system in my Corolla that worked pretty well but I think I paid too much for it as I just bought what the shop sold me.

So now I got a new 2013 Elantra, I figured I'd do some research and get more bang for my buck. Because of all the integration I'd like to keep my stock headunit. My budget is about $750, I can probably install the speakers myself but I'll have to have a shop install the amp and the LOC (Installation will have to factor into the $750 budget). So here's what I had in mind:

Speakers:

a) Polk DB6501 (front) + Polk DB651 (back) (~$150)

or b) Infinity 6030cs (front) + Infinity 6032cf (back) (~150)

Amp:

Planet Audio AC1800.5 MOSFET 4+1 channels (~150)

LOC:

JL Cleansweep (~200)

or Can I get away with the cheaper Audiocontrol LC6i? (~100)

Sub:

Pioneer TS-SWX251 10" sub (125)

or Audio Ordnance B-12 (90)

Again, my budget is around $750 so I keep my expectations in line and I don't crank up the volume. I don't expect it to blow my mind or the guy 2 blocks down's mind. I just need an accurate sound system that can hit all the notes cleanly and can hit the lower frequencies with some thump. Thanks for reading this post!

We can help you install your system start to finish if you've got some basic tools, it will save you a lot of money, give you a way better system for your money since shops are so outrageously expensive, and hard ache, plus you'll enjoy your system more knowing you hooked your own shit up lol. What all do you need help with?

For the price, I don't think the audiocontrol is a bad idea. They make some great equipments. For yours speakers you can go with components in the front and just coaxials in the back (not sure if that's how you plan on doing it already) n have it sounds clean n save money. I wouldn't do that amp, overrated crap. There are some other ones that would be more ideal for a little bit more. Subs wise, you can probably do better

I see you're in Cali, i'm about 30-45mins from you. I went to UCI, pos school lol

CDT Audio components for the front. If they're properly amped, stock/cheap rear fill on headunit power is all you'll need.

No on the amp.

Just get a nice 100-150 x2 amp for the comps. There's a badazz Phoenix Gold Ti 2 channel in the classifieds that would be perfect.

For the lows, a 500-1000 class D amp that does rated. Take your pic of any of the fine subs in the classifieds, there's tons of good choices. @woofercooker ; has exceptional deals on Sundown Audio subs that would fit your needs well.

I'm mainly worried about wiring, hiding the wiring and also having to drill through my firewall and splicing wires, I'm not very electronically savvy. Also I live in a condo so I don't have a lot of room and space to work with.

Lol, UCI is alright, I think you grow to hate any school you've been to after 4 years. I went to UCSD and hated it but now going back, it doesn't seem to bad.

Love the avatar! I see the CDT CL-61A on amazon for $150, so that's definitely within my range, would they be a good upgrade over the Infinity and the Polk I suggested? The rear speakers are just there to play the fillers right? So if I leave the stock ones in, I can just leave them powered by the stock HU. Then I can just get 2 Scorsche Loc80 2 channel LOCs instead of the Audiocontrol? 500-1000W sub amp is too much power for me I think, I don't like overpowering bass, so maybe I can settle for a decent 300W one? What are good amp brands? JBL and Alpine?

Thanks again for all the help!

Also, not a bad idea to get the sub and amp second hand from the classified section?

The Phoenix Ti600.2 are rated at 300WX2, I think that's overkill for me lol.

I was only there for 2 yrs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Some brands are good at certain area over others. So you'd have to do research. There's no way to say one company is good in all equipments

Just gotta set the gain right

I speak from the minority, but I LOVE my Polk DB6501 set. If you're not planning to go active just use the passive crossovers and set the tweeter attenuator switches to -3 dbs. Skip the Planet Audio amp. And, re-consider getting a shallow mount sub since you have a trunk to work with.
