Ideally I would like to have an 8" woofer, and two 3 ft tall towers with 5.25/6.5 component set.. Althought Im at a loss of how to power these? Would a plate amp and receiver be the best fit? If so, please offer up some suggestions. Would a builder on here be able to specialize a design that would applicable to a worthy home audio enclosure?!

yes to power a sub you would need a plate amp, as for the mains do you want a 2.1 setup, 5.1 or 7.1? what are your goals?
To keep cost down I would probably aim for 2:1. I'd like to fill my bedroom with pleasurable, loud sounds during movies and gaming. My room is 20' by 15'

well you could look at the harman kardon avr line, they make great products. and dont be fooled by there rms ratings, my 75 watt rms put out over 40 amps. subs are gonna be up to you since you can piece it together and build one or shell out cash and just buy one. Your mains you can go have a listen at a local store and demo a few sets.

I need more indepth advice, sadly. Thanks for the quick response. So would these reciever also amplify both the towers and sub?

Also, I think i completely misunderstood your concept of 2.1, 5.1, and 7.1.. I was thinking you were asking do I want to run 2 speakers to 1 woofer/ etc..

also, budget of 300$ currently. Could I get a satisfactory set up for consisting of 1 woofer and 1 component set?

no like 2 mains and a sub, or 5 speakers and a sub, if your looking for a reciever that can power a sub also just go to walmart and pick one off the shelf, any good reciever is not gonna have speaker terminals for a sub but a preout to hook a rca to connect the woofer.

and just seen your budget, you couldtn buy one of my fronts for that let alone my surger supressor. Im out on this since ony things in that area i can see are a craigslist ad or wally world junk

darn.. well Ill have to start building.. or just stick to my vehicle for now..

I was hoping on grabbing a dayton 8" and maybe Image dynamic component set..

I've got a 5.1 system that I basically pieced together off Craigslist. I think I'm around 300 bucks or so. I've got 2 DCM Towers (60 bucks), this sub from partsexpress: Dayton Audio SUB-1200 12" 120 Watt Powered Subwoofer 300-629 (120 bucks), 2 Yamaha bookshelf speakers for the rear (35 bucks) and a Nakamichi 5.1 receiver (80 bucks). Only thing I'm missing now is the center channel and I'll get that for around 50-60 bucks too. The nice thing about home audio is it drops significantly in value. What might've been a 500 dollar pair of speakers 10 years ago are 50-60 bucks on Craigslist.

The problem is I would need to research to find what brands and models are decent. I would want to have this by Christmas haha
