concerned: IDMAX, typeX and diamond

I went to a local shop yesterday to start browsing for my future system. I listened to an alpine 10" type X in a sealed box powered by a alpine MRD-M1005 amp (supposedly 1000 watts). While it was clean and hit well, it wasnt as good as i had hoped. I WANTED to audition an IDMAX, but they said they never have those to listen too, have to special order it and its $600!!!....

The salesperson said the typeX sounds as good or better than the IDMAX, which i find to be a bit concerning since the alpine didnt blow me away at all. Is he right? would yall say the IDMAX sounds very similar to the alpine? I wish i could audition an IDMAX, but cant find one :-(

The salesman also said that they stopped selling diamond audio because the speakers kept falling apart after 1 to 2 years. I was looking at HEX's because ive heard them before and love them. But i was really worried after hearing they fall apart! Any input on this as well???

I was thinking of going 2 IDMAX 10's or 1 IDMAX12. Kinda bummed right now...

The ID max' s sound alot better to me. They are cleaner and hit deeper.

X2 on the price of the IDmax's. I found the 12" version for 320 if I remember correctly off this one site. Just look around online. You will always pay out the *** at a local shop. So keep that in mind.

Also x2 on the salesman, lol!

Exactly, ive never heard of diamond Hex's just "falling apart", but thats why i figured i would ask!

I heard a Diamond D9 and i loved it. If the IDMAX is really close to that, i know ill be happy. Just wasnt very impressed with the clarity of the alpine. I actually listened to the alpine in a car, not in a demo room. D9 was in a demo room. Too bad its 700 bucks for a D9!!! WAY out of my price range :)

Diamonds drivers dont fall apart,my HEX's are about 3 years old & still look and work like new,my M6 in my other car is about 4 years old, still pounding...

your dealers relationship with Diamond fell apart not the drivers.............

You didnt like the Type X prolly because it was a single 10,try a 12

and get a different perspective... I usually dislike 10s too

If you decide on a 12" IDmax, I have a version 3, dual 4-ohm one in perfect condition that I'm selling for $260 shipped. PM me if you're interested. I have pictures/references/etc.

I looked at the TDX's on some ebay stores, but they look like they need 1000+ watts APIECE!! I dont want to go that crazy. I was thinking 1000 watts SPLIT between two IDMAX 10's (thanks for offer on the 12" wj94, i appreciate it and may still go one 12"). Would the D9 or TDX play well with 500-600 watts rms like the IDMAX ?

hell no,TDX's are hungry and do need 1200w ea,but 1 12" ported will smoke 2 sealed - personally I would skip the 10s and grab 1 12" superwoofer of your choice

I would think IDMax's want some good power too similar
