CompVR sucks too much power

How do i set my gains? What should the voltage be at. My neighbor who says he's been in car audio for 20 years seems like he was just doing it by ear. I've gotten more done on this thing by running onto this site then i have from him. Shouldn't like 13 volts at the terminal, or am i completely wrong?

You can set them by ear only if you know what to listen for. If not, then invest in/borrow a decent DMM, click the link in my sig, and enjoy the results.

yea, ok, so idk how the **** to do that. YOu think an aduio shop would do that for me. Or anyone near me wanna help me out? Maybe a free beer for the effort //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for trying

Which part of it do you not understand? I can walk you through it if need be... it's very simple.

Just burn a test tone onto a CD, unhook your speaker wire from your amp, play the tone at the loudest volume you will listen to, but the leads from your DMM (with your DMM set to AC voltage) ion the + and - terminals of your amp's speaker output, and turn the gain until you reach the desired voltage.

The desired voltage is going to be the square root of the product of how much power you're running and the resistance.

So if you're sending 400wrms to the sub at 4 ohms, you would turn the gain until your meter equals 40 volts. square root(400 * 4)=40.

Am I the only one that laughed hysterically when reading that? You are powering 1 coil, you can't properly spell xplod when it is in the ****ing pic, you're rca's have been split and ****ed more than a **********, I don't know what more you could possibly do to fail worse than you already have.
give the guy a chance..........we all make mistakes. Maybe it is an Xploud. I've seen some off brand amps before.

yo figured it out way to go, it was pretty bad when you first showed up. A few of the basics were missiing when you first showed up, but we are here to help, that was almost as bad as I have seen....

Ok cool. I did something i should have done in the beginning, get the manual. So i wired it in 4ohms. And man! what a diffrence with the two voic coils. I played TI's Top Back with full everything and the amp didnt even get warm, i think it was accualy cooling down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. I also saw there demensions for a box, and i think i'll build by own....
and you have redeemed yourself from the first page already! Woot! You learn fast than most.... Way to go, you get a ported enclosure and night and day difference from the small sealed. enclosures and wiring section of this forum can help you out plenty or I can get back to you with ported plans that will fit inyour trunk.

Yes, an audio shop should be able to set your gains properly.
How much do you think it would cost. I really want to do it myself, but don't think i can. I would love it if someone could show me..

That makes more sense. So i dont even have to worry about the preout volts? Also, i have an analog volt meter, but it sucks. should i pick up the real deal? Im short on cash, so im trying to save every penny.

thank you. this is the kind of stuff i love to see on forums. He's right tho, i am a newb.

But for future note: I am not the one who spliced the RCA's and routed it this way. I am the one trying to fix it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thats what I call a guy doing another guy a solid.
Yea, i think i may pick up his box, as all the ply wood i had laying around had been termite infested, and i can't afford some MDF

Thanks, im just trying to learn. I have really enjoyed the most part. Just the Sub, witch i thought would be the easy part.

I have been thing of a ported enclosure, but i am not sure if i can manage with the space. Also, i kind of want a more versitle range of sound, as i do not listen to just rap/hip hop. I like to listen to all kinds of music....

I still want to build a box, but i think it's out of the question till i get a break with my money.

Thank you guys so much for the help. I am enjoying every minute of this, and pissing my dad off as i am out in the garage tweaking on my car till 11 at night. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif this is so addicting.

Ok, so i am planning on picking up a new box tomorow. I am expecting a BIG increase in sound quality, and volume. Am i expecting too much, or is it really going to help that much.

2.5cub sealed box btw...

Yes, it should help out a lot, especially if the sub is wired correctly and the amp gain is set appropriately. Kicker states the min size should be 1.0cf and the max should be 4.6cf for sealed.

Would it hit harder too? Or will SQ and volume increase?
