CompVR sucks too much power

not bad. The system I learned on was over 1k...
Talk about made lots of people angry.
The thing all of this came with the car except the sub and power/ground cable. SO i bought a kit at Modern Audio, Lightning Audio 2 amp install kit, for 45 bucks, and installed the new sub, only to realize i am an idiot...lol

Ok cool. I did something i should have done in the beginning, get the manual. So i wired it in 4ohms. And man! what a diffrence with the two voic coils. I played TI's Top Back with full everything and the amp didnt even get warm, i think it was accualy cooling down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. I also saw there demensions for a box, and i think i'll build by own....

so you have a 2 channel and a five channel.

ditch the 2 channel and run the coasils off the four front and rear channels and use the 5th channel what it was made for, a sub.

and wtf is overcurrent, their is no such thing.

and even though you have shitty stuff you should still spell it right.

ill give you 60 shipped for the 5 channel.

No, no and no. Allthought it sounds like a good idea, this sub is 400 rms. (kicker website) and my 5 channel lists 200 watts max for the 5th channel.

Overcurrent is real, cuz it says it on the amp...When i had it wired before in 1 and 2 ohm, it was drawing too much power, and an LED would light up that said "OVERCURRENT" and it would shut the amp down, untill i shut off the headunit and turned it back on.

Yes, i know i needed to adjust it, Thanks for clarifying why i accualy need to tho. I have alot of work to do still...

EDIT: im not ripping my dash out and wireing the front coaxils... I would much rather spend 250 dollars and buy a new headunit with three preouts...

u need to buy a digital multimeter to set gains correctly and also if i am rembering right overcurrent means u r trying to get more out of the amp than what its supposed to put out and thats from the gain and bass all the way up on the amp settings

so get a dmm and set it correctly

so what channels are you using on the 5 chan and what channels are you using on the 2 chan?

trust me everything will be better on jus the 5 channel.

i had a kicker cvr on 100w and it got pretty loud for 100 w

amps turned all the way up will clip. Its distortion, and over power. It CAN possibly produce too high current, and voltage, in combination with distortion, will shorten the life of the cvr, and the amp as well.
That's not what clipping means...

Your amplifier sends a sin wave to the subwoofer. This sin wave has several properties, most importantly (to you) are power and frequency. When the sin wave is ideal, it will deliver the correct amount of power to your subwoofer.

Ideal wave:

Now, by turning your gains up all the way, it will overdrive your amplifier and clip the signal, making it appear like this:

Notice how it is not rounded at the bottom. Now using a little bit of calculus, you could determine the area underneath that curve. This area is equal to the amount of power. The clipped wave has more area than does the the ideal sin wave, which means the clipped wave is transfering more power to the subwoofer.

This means that you're sending more power than you think to the subwoofer, which usually leads to your subwoofer getting to hot and blowing.

Set your gain properly!

You're kinda on the right track but there is alot of misinformation in there. See my post above this one.

I have them all the way up now, and im not getting it, plus my amp isnt even heating up... thanks for the wireing help

no such thing as overcurrent, that is sony;s way of saying clipping.
yea, problem is i cant tell if it is or not, cant hear it too well inside the cabin, and my neighbor is a *****, and keeps yelling at me. **** her, im just gonna work on it

All the components are running on the 5 channel. I have 4 channels comming off of it, and the 5th channel is for the sub. I was thinking about running the kicker off this amp, but seeing as how quiet it is on the 2 channel, i wouldn't want to run it on the 5 channel untill i get a box. And once i get a propper head unit it will all be perfect, as i can run the seperate amp for the sub and the compnenets without a problem. 3 pre outs, one for the front, one for the back, and one for the sub.... I could also run all of those onto the 5 channel, but i don't see the point of overworking the amp, when what i have now is working fine. I just cant see the logical benefits of doing that. I see clearing up space, but that's it.... Please explain
