CompVR sucks too much power

Powering 1 coil is a HUGE no no. If you cant wire them in parallel (both positives going to amp positive, and both negatives going to amp negative), then maybe you need to wire them in series.

Take the (+) from 1 coil, and go over to the other coil's (-), then take the UNUSED (+) and (-) and connect them to the amp, correspondingly. See if that helps.

ohhhh...i could totaly try that. I had it at ++ and --, and now i just powerd one coil

But why is that a big no no?

Anyways, i have the Sub wired in 2ohms, and on one voice coil.
Just goin off of what I read El Wapo. Calm down.

I dont know the FULL explanation why powering just 1 coil is bad, but, I'd guess it's similar to why running a v8 on just the 4 cylinders on the left would be bad. Uneven displacement of power and heat.

yea, thats one thing i figured would happen. Thats why i dont want to run it like this for a while. Im going to try running it in series and that will take like 5 minutes...

I cant see an xplod being 1 ohm stable. If you were running a D2 CVR, you were parallel wired down to 1 ohm, eh, I just cant see a Sony doing that. Maybe it can, but IDK. If you wire it the other way, it will be 4 ohms, Again, if that is a Dual 2ohm CVR.

it is. Idk how to wire it. It was wired at 1ohm before, and it would overload almost instantly and got hot enough to burn my hand:eek: so the way you told me to wire it is for 4 ohms??? If so great, that's what ive been asking for //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If the box is way too small (as it appears to be), it will allow your sub to handle more power.

Sounds like you need to read up on the forum quite a bit more; learn how to properly wire your subwoofer (you need to have both coils wired to the proper impedance to match your amp), and you need a better amp/install.

By install, run the the proper gauge power wire, proper RCA's and headunit, proper filter and equalizer settings.

The best advice I recieved when learning about car audio was this: Do it right the first time (save money, educate yourself, buy nice equipment), so you don't have to do it wrong a hundred times. Following this, you'll save alot of money and be much happier with your substage.

I have a close friend with 2 CVR 12s in truck boxes, and you'd be surprised how nice they sound. The box he has appears to be for a 10" tho....But they do sound **** good in small truck boxes. He's got the D4s on a 600w kicker amp. Pretty nice sounding.

im learning and so far the total spent is 65 bucks, so im happy...

Everything is fine, i just didn't know how to wire the sub in 4 ohms. Witch is really what i wanted to know in the beginning. Once i get that, then i can finish up the install. Build some amp racks, and get it all squared away, save up, and buy a new headunit...

Its hard to search a forum that has a bazillion threads....
