My cousin is building be a desktop. Here is the prob we ran into. All the info is in this thread, because I do not know much of anything about this stuff. So if you could look over this info and let me know whats wrong, that would be great. The 2K1Toaster seems to know what he is talking about, so we may just send back the pentium D and go with a core 2 duo, but I would like to just get it to work as is first if possible.

Hey there. I've read some of your posts on the forum and kinda get the jists of what is going on. First off, don't get rid of the pentium D 805. If you have the right model I can send you a link to where they got that powered up to 4 ghz PLUS. Its a pretty good overclocker. Core2 duo is a faster chip using MUCH less power though, but I like the pentium D.

Now onto your problem. Although I think it is happening due to your ram I would say that its not that the ram is bad its more than likely that the motherboard does not accept that ram. I have been doing builds on PC's for a long time and I have not once had any luck with an ECS board. You could pick up a cheap ASUS board for around the same price and they are tier1. Try resetting the CMOS (jumpers on the board) the instructions to do so are in the manual. Sometimes it just needs to be reset to allow it to work with your proc. Make sure that you seated the processor properly, also check the ram (i know it was said) and the video card itself.

Also check that the board accepts that processor. It can fit the socket but not support the chip. For instance some boards to do accept dual core, or if they do they need a cmos upgrade and the crappy thing is really the only way to do it is to put an older chip in. Although some of the bigger companies will actually send you a new cmos to install yourself.

Let me know if any of this helps. If not we can try some other things.

See I'm just the opposite. Mostly I do AMD builds as I really like the quality and price. I don't have a problem with intel, they are the biggest of the big.

Search Pentium D 805 and Tomshardwareguide and you will see the article about them overclocking it. Its a pretty good chip!

I couldn't post since I'm not a member over there, but the beeps you hear when starting up are a code that tells you what's wrong. Count them (ie. three short, 1 long 2 short, etc). Look in the m/b manual or go online to the m/b mfgrs site and look in the support section for what they mean.

Im not sure what he did, but I think he may have switched connections from the power supply, and the beeps are gone. I dont know what he did for sure, so dont quote me, but the beeps have been eliminated. Now its just up to getting something to show up on the monitor.

Also an update, we hooked up the monitor to my laptop and it works. So its something with the processor or video card.

Just going to throw out some obvious questions.

Did you go into the BIOS and set the video to your PCI-E/AGP slot and not on board? If not you most likely wont get any video since its not going to the video card.

Make sure you have enough power to boot up the video card. Had a friend use his shit PSU when his blew and it would start etc, but his sound card wouldnt work.

I just kidna skimmed through it so if you allready answered these/tried em...my bad.

Beeps make me think your having a hardware conflict. If nothing is showing up on te screen, go back and make sure ALL of your components are seated correctly and snug. This inlcudes the CPU. Make sure your spacer screws that attatch the board to the case are set properly. Check all your cables. You might want to check your jumper settings for the various devices as well, even though most of the time the stock settings should work for most applications.

We cant get the BIOS up at all, because we can not get anything to show on the screen at all. We will go back and check everything next time we have time to work on it.

The beeps are gone, just cant get anything to show on the monitor. We will keep trying.

well the beeps are usually a certain number which reads to a certain error. by telling ECS the number of beeps they should have been able to detect the problem. It could be a problem with the memory(bad or incompatible), Motherboard(defective have that alot on ecs) CPU(installed wrong or burnt out), or videocard(defective or burnt out) just cause the beeps stopped doesnt mean that fixed the problem as he said the beeps happened when the p4 power was in so he removed the power and the beeps stopped. by that statement alone Im willing to bet the board is fried.

IS there anything you can do to test if the board is fried for sure or not?
