Computer ppl .. 2 questions for ya...

1) My computrer is wireless ( w a linksys wrt 54gs router ) and about every 5 minutes it will lose connection, then come back on , then off .. The router is only about 4 mths old , and was wondering if there was anything i could do quick to check it,.. I tried resetting, and unpluging it but it still does it

2) On occasion i will hear the fans getting pretty loud then all the sudden the computer will shut down .. It happens alot when im running scans but not all the time.. Any quick suggestions to try and troubleshoot this to?? I have a warranty w best buy and they said the diagnostic is free , but if its a virus or some other malware its 139 bux, so i thought id check w everyone in here for some help or links to a good computer forum

is question number 2 referring to your computer?

Usually if a fan is starting to spin faster(louder) it's because temperatures are rising and my guess is your BIOS settings are telling the fan to adjust accordingly with what temps are going on(rpm wise). If that's the case, something is over heating and causing it to restart. Now if you mean it's completely shutting down I have no idea b/c usually if something over heats it just restarts. What are you usually doing when this happens, besides virus scans.

If you aren't talking about your computer, I have no idea.

Besides what 2kchevy said, #2 might also be a power supply going out on you.

If its putting out voltage spikes that could cause the fan speed ups, and the PC to shut down.

Yeah that's a good point rich b I forgot about that. You can check your power supply with a DMM too. If you don't know how to do it, all you do is place the black lead on the ground for the PSU(black wire) and take your other lead and start checking the red wire(+5v), orange(+3.3v), yellow(+12v), blue(-12v), and white(-5v). Now the numbers may not be exactly those but they should be around that. If they aren't you have a problem.
