Are components up front a must have or would some custom set up coaxial be just as good?

its personal preference but components usually are nicer. i bought the q logic kick panels for our trucks although i don't really like them, they get the job done. i actually didn't mind my 4x6 alpine sps i had before the components. only thing i didn't like is that they're so small bass distorted them

Coaxials will sound like normal door speakers imaging wise. Components will have the tweeters higher aimed at your ear or windshield or towards eachother and you can hear crisp vocals in a more straightforward manner, making the soundstage much wider giving you an encompassed sound feeling.

However, some high end coaxials along with crazy good digital signal processing and time alignment can achieve similar effect.

I favor components over coax to, but some coax have tweeter and midrange connections and sound pretty good when used with a xover, I have these : Soundstream SP2.654 (sp2654) 112W 6.5" 2-Way Pro Audio Series I hooked them up to these xovers :Soundstream PR02.XVR (pr02xvr) 2-way Crossover for Coaxial Pro and they sound good for rear fill, I did have to tone them down on the amp gain because they were originally louder then the front components.
