Component Speakers Vs. Coaxial

hey all, i have 6.5 type r's in my front doors, and 5.25 audiopipes in my rear doors, i have a six channel amp, and i already have 2 12in type rs for subs. so i need to fill my last two channels with speakers. just wondering: what are the main differences between coaxials and components? is there that much of a difference in sound?

plus, im not new at car audio, but new at component speakers...the crossovers- some have 2 channel inputs, while some just have one channel inputs. for example, alpine type xs' crossovers have two channel imputs for one woofer/tweeter, which would mean you can only run one SET of components off a four channel amp, whereas other crossovers for kickers, polk etc. just have one channel input. question is, how many channels do you typically need for ONE woofer/tweeter combo? thanks for your help. let me know if there are any good components/coaxials on the market for ~120$. thanks again.

Components are often made of better materials, sound better and they have external crossover units.

Some crossovers are bi-amp capable. That means you can use 4 channels of amplification for a single pair of components.

Some crossovers are not bi-amp capalbe. That means you can use 2 channels of amplification for a pair of them.

You don't NEED to use 3 pairs of speakers in your car. If I were you I'd probably buy a nice pair of components, bridge four channels of the amp for them (if possible) and use the remaining two channels for rear fill.

More speakers does NOT = better sound

oh. ok. well my back seat needs some highs help. was thinking tweeters, but im not a fan of them. plus thats why i bought a six channel amp. was thinking the type s's, dont want to break my wallet. if i bridge 2 channels on my amp it would make 200wrms. thats a little much i think for speakers in my price range. thanks for your input.

Having more power than you need is a good thing.

Had you refrained from buying 3 different pairs of speakers you could've had some really nice components for your front stage. This is a mistake that a ton of people make...

note that most bi-amp capable crossovers (separate woofer and tweeter inputs) come with a jumper so they can be fed from one wire pair. they are just more flexible and bi-amping allows for separate time alignment, level control, active processing, EQ, etc.

i recommend bridging the amp channels 1-4 to the front components. set the gain so you don't damage the front speakers, but the extra power on tap will improve sound quality. they won't ever see 200W but they will be louder with less distortion then they have now. You can set your gains so they can only see a peak of 100W RMS if you want.

ditch the Audiopipe rear speakers and spend the money you have on a better pair of rear speakers. buy some rear Type-S components so you can locate the tweeter where the rear passengers can hear it.

i avoid coaxial whenever it's feasible. i do see a time and place for them occasionally.

If I were you, I'd just move the type r coxials to the rear and put the type s or save a lilttle more and put type r components in the front...I'm sure your local audio shop can mount your tweeter in the door
