Component Speakers in 1996-1999 Cavalier

I was wondering what size of component speakers would fit in the door panels of a 1999 Cavalier. It's a 4-door sedan, and the default speaker size is 4"x6". I found a nice set of plates that will convert the sizes, and even mount the mids at a bit of an upward angle, which is neat. I've seen it done before, I'm just nervous about cutting any metal or adding MDF... I'd rather use these pre-made, custom-fit conversion plates. They should fit fine.

Oh, and another thing came to mind... I'm planning on purchasing a pair of 6"x9" 3-way Pioneer speakers, they're 220 watts. I saw a set from an opened box at the store today, I noticed they look a lot smaller, both from the top looking down and the size of the magnet, as well as lighter, than the current 6"x9" bazooka's I've currently got, w/ built-in crossovers. I really like the quality of sound I get with these Bazooka's, but they're only 2-ways. I was wondering if I should go about getting bazooka's again, or if the magnet size/weight really matter a whole lot. (I'll be throwing in a pair of 12" PPi's, 400 watts each, closed box, in the trunk. Everything will be run off, at first a Pioneer-7200, soon to hopefully be a 7400.)

Any help/opinions?

Oh and 1 other thing again... should I re-qire the speaker wires, or would Iit be best using the stock wiring that came with the car? What kind of advantages/disadvantages am I looking at? (If I re-wired, which size should I use: 14 gague or 16 gague?)

Oh and 1 other thing... I've got a set of base lights mounted under my dash, they look really sweet. They get power from the cigarette lighter. How would I go about wiring something so I wouldn't have the cigarette lighter used up by this? A friend mentioned attaching it to the back of the fuse panel, but I'm not too sure about that one. What options would I have? (There are more base lights planned for the future as well.)

I had the same Pioneers you are talking about in my Accord before I took them out and use the hole as ports. They speaker will fit fine and is pretty good for the money. I think 220 watt peak and 45 watt nominal(RMS) and I just ran my H.U. on them and it worked fine. Since then I don't have the same H.U. or speakers. As far as speaker conversion kits are for the front speakers they are alright, I like mine with custom MDF pods tho. I have a set of 6.5 inch Mid Bass Drivers in the doors and a set of Crossfire SQ 6.5 comps in fiberglass kickpanels. They light yes you can run it to the fuse box with a relay.

-Hope this Helps

My problem with my '96 cavalier 2 door was that good speakers don't easily fit in the rear dash, I had to cut new, wider holes to drop my Concept 6x9s in. Right now I'm having trouble getting the door apart to replace the blown door speakers. 4 and 8 Ohm is important. Your amplifier needs to be the same ohms as your speakers, or either could get fried. I can't explain it, but as it was explained to me, a home stereo will typicaly run 8 ohm speakers, so get 8 ohm for the home. Car audio used to be mixed, some were 4 ohm, some were 8. Now I think they're mostly 4. It is important, but how important I'm not sure. Am I the only person in this group who hates his cavalier with a passion? I dream of winning the Powerball, not because I want to get rich, but because I want to be able to afford the fines when I set the ****ed thing on fire in the middle of the dealership's parking lot.
