comp amp question

ok maybe im a noob and this is a dumb question but im going to ask anyways. when i stripped my car down this weekend my speaker wire going to my comp amp was wired to my wiring harness. the installer had the wire coming from the harness going to the amp. ok i thought you had to run wire from the speaker straight to the amp? why was that done and if its good to do it that way how would you go about doing it?

It could be the start up wire for the amp to cut on?? but i say hell if it aint broke dont fix it!!
