Comments on 8" Subs

That's not a benefit because that's a myth.
I want to make an argument to this point about the laws of mass and inertia but every time I do it goes back to MMS affecting efficiency and not transient response. =\

Benefit is point of view/opinion as its 90% of the stuff on this board. I could say there is a benefit of buying an woofer from Walmart because its cheeper and I can't justify spending $600. That could be a benefit to me. Im just saying that I've heard more quality (again my own POV) systems with smaller woofers, 10" being the most common where I'm from. All of the systems I have heard hooked up properly have never used woofers larger than a 12". Never been to a high end shop where they were running a buch of 15's or 18's for SQ in a demo vehicle. Not saying it hasn't been done just never seen it. And if you have its not usually the norm.
It really has nothing to do with point of view, only lack of experience or lack of exposure.

I found out today my Beals Brothers 8 inch subbass / midbass drivers are absurdly sensitive to clipping. I go too far on the gain and it goes from no audible distortion to an absolute overwhelming buzz almost instantly (sine waves 40hz and up). I don't know how Beals did it, but it's great for setting gains.

The proper answer not helping this guy out is

1) search the board and you will find the answer to almost any question you ask

2) an 8" sub is no better or worse than any other size

3)there is no product or brand better than or worse than any other because an argument can ALWAYS be made either way

His reply gee guys thanks for the input

very generic
