Comments on 8" Subs

plus with 3 8's you get that funky impedence.
Yea. Besides just the "wow" factor, you can fit smaller subs in places other subs would never fit. Ie- small trunks, rear decks, b pillars, behind truck seats and you can put in multiple drivers for large cone area arrays. Yea 8's are a little tighter (imo) than most larger subs but not all the time. And if all you want is "bump inside and none outside to promote theft" any great install can mask huge bass whether it be two 8's or two 15's. I've heard -plenty- of 'sleeper' installs you'd never guess where a/b anything from the outside. One more thing also, a pro to smaller drivers is they (generally) require much less power than larger drivers. Ok, its midnight now and im ending this, so if theres typos/rambling im sorry, lol

Because inductance plays a far greater role in that than moving mass does?

Wish I could agree with you, but a smaller driver needs to excurt further than a large driver to get the same output, and thus, require less power.

Boy, I love making rash generalizations!

my car requires less gas to get from the liquor store, to the strip club.. does that mean it goes faster? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Didnt you just agree with me?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Nothing wrong with small subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it all depends on the install. too big and they won'y handle power too small and no low end output. How bout a few 6.5's ?

What about a smaller woofer responding quicker to the imput because you have less cone area to move.
That's not a benefit because that's a myth.

Larger speakers like the 15 sounds too boomy for me
Then you've never heard properly setup 15's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, size definitely doesn't have anything to do with the way they sound.

that's why there's t/s perimiters, to make sense of the way a driver is designed.

Think of PA speakers that use only a 15" or even an 18" and a horn for full range.......... or a 15" guitar or bass guitar amplifier.

Benefit is point of view/opinion as its 90% of the stuff on this board. I could say there is a benefit of buying an woofer from Walmart because its cheeper and I can't justify spending $600. That could be a benefit to me. Im just saying that I've heard more quality (again my own POV) systems with smaller woofers, 10" being the most common where I'm from. All of the systems I have heard hooked up properly have never used woofers larger than a 12". Never been to a high end shop where they were running a buch of 15's or 18's for SQ in a demo vehicle. Not saying it hasn't been done just never seen it. And if you have its not usually the norm.
