Which product will you be using?

Only thing I wiped down with 3M Automix adhesive cleaner was the under side of my hood.
If it's obviously dirty, then I'd go with a rag and some Simple Green. Pretty much any butyl based quality damping mat will go down and stay down after that. Of course, if you're cutting corners on quality, then you have other things to worry about as well (ie poor damping performance).
