Classical Music

Just wondered if anyone else in here ever listens to classical besides me. It's not the only thing I listen to by any means, but I like all kinds of music (except jazz) and I particualarly enjoy some of the star wars tracks from time to time. I've noticed that listening to a good classical selection will let you know just how good your speakers are.

Yes, I do, and I enjoy John Williams quite a bit. Classical music is where I find most of the faults in my speakers, and it has prompted me to search elsewhere for the desired sound quality I'm looking for.

About 20% of my listening is classical. As you both pointed out, classical is a great way to evaluate a system. IMO the very best way is to compare the system to a live acoustical performance - classical concerts being the best. This will certainly point out system flaws.

Fortunately the symphony where I live is close to world class & they perform the same Tchaikovsky piece almost every year. I have 2 CDs of that piece performed by other symphonies (I wish our symphony would release a recording of this piece from our own hall) that I use for critical system evaluation. That way I know how it's supposed to sound live.

I've found that classical works good for testing speakers b4 you even buy them. When i go to my local sound shop i always bring my classical cd just so i can see how good the speakers REALLY are.
