Class A/B vs. D?

Considering wattage being the same and both mono/1 channel, what's the difference in sound?

I hear the A/B is more accurate, but is the D more "powerful"? I ask because I've had a TRU A/B class bridged for my subs a few years back and HATED it! not sure if the amp as bad or what...but I've always used Class D's prior and since with great luck.

I prefer the BEST sound, but like to really hit when I want to.

Thanks guys!

I use my zapco 6.0 bridged 2 ohm mono to run my XXX and it sounds //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

99% of the time a class d amp will be alot more efficient than a class ab amp of similiar power. As far as sound, a class ab should technically put out better sound, but when we are talking about the low frequencies that subs will be playing, most people can't tell any difference in the sound so that is why class d amps are the most popular choice for powering subs:graduate:

Generally a Class D amp will be more efficient when we're talking about high power levels.

Now, I'm not one to say that either is better, but there is a reason that I'm using a class A/B amp for subwoofer duty. One, the 2.2HV can easily produce 1kw+ rms, similar to many high power class D amps of today. Two, LP was on to something when they designed their amps to use a high output voltage to create power, it's far more efficient to do it this way, though a bit pricier in this case. Three, it's a Linear Power that should pretty much cover it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
