a newb question, does it sound similar to a AQ HDC 15 on a AQ 2200 or does the AQ destroy it spl wise?

The AQ HDC and the SDX are made for very different applications. The HDC is more of a SPL woofer, the SDX is a BL optimized SQL sub (it has xbl^2... again, its a Brahma motor).
I dont remember the exact specs on the HDC right now, but Im confident the SDX has more displacement potential for sealed apps (and generally sounding better) while the HDC will likely handle more power for raw output in a ported environment.
