hey, i just got a capacitor and installed it, but it the lights still dim alot, especially since i just installed a hifonics bx2005d amp. i know the cap has to be charged, how exactly do you do this? my amp is a monoblock but it has 2 channels for the speaker wire!! this is the hifonics brutus bx2005d monoblock amp. i currently have 1 dvc 4ohm sub connected to it, to see a 2ohm load, but with each voice coil is going to each channel, so therefore wouldnt each channel see a 4ohm load? im really confused on this, ive owned a monoblock before, but itd had only 1 channel. and the way the channels are in order is weird, its like this: ++ - -. on most 2 channels it goes: + - + - , so i know theres something im missing here. i plan on throwing in 1 more sub, which i eventually plan to run these 2 subs in parallel for the amp to see a 1ohm load. if someone could explain all this that would be great. and one more thing, there is this wierd smell, from either that amp, or the capacitor in my car. it smells enough that my shirt even smells of it. i want to say it smells like a mixture of fire and bandaids, although nothing was burning. thanks alot.

those blocks are all connected on the amp (speaker terminals) just make it easier to hook up 2 subs. it should say in the manual. also the cap should come with a charging resister to slow charge it but that should also be in the manual. not trying to be a jerk but whats the diff between reading it here and in the manual? if you bought it used im sorry. the cap isnt a sure fix for dimming lights and the smell can be alot of things including having the cap wired wrong or a warm voice coil on the sub or the amp getting overly hot from lack of voltage. link to hooking up subs--- http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html# 1dvcp 1 sub would be 1 dvc sub in parallel when you add the other it will be the 2 dvc subs in parallel except treat the amps speaker hook ups (the ++ are hooked together on the amp and the -- are too)

as for theamplifier, i cant really help you, im not familiar with that model... as for the headlights still dimming i can help you. do a search for caps, youll see that you just got sold a product under the pretense that it was going tohelp your situation, this is not the case. you were better off not buying the cap... they are not intended for situations where voltage drops in this severe a manor.

i want to say it smells like a mixture of fire and bandaids, although nothing was burning. thanks alot.
congratulations, something is blown. if the smellis very strong(like you mentioned) i would guess the amplifier. could be the cap, but i dont have any experience with those and i highly doubt it went out already. did the smell start right after you installed the cap? my guess is that low voltage fried your input stage, or you got one of the hifonics amps that has issues. if it is strong enough that your shirt smells though, you might wanna investigate that, fast...

thanks for the replies. the cap didnt come with any charging resistor. and i know, this stuff should be in the manual, but the manual for the cap was very generic, not telling me much at all. same with the hifonics manual. i do have 2 amps, and the cap all grounded to the same spot though. i dont think thats too great for it. i think i understand the whole speaker input thing now.

as for the second guy, your saying that i should not have a cap when i have 2800 watts continuously flowing through my system? and im pretty sure nothing is blown. the amp still puts out power to the sub, the cap still turns on and displays the voltage. i wouldnt say the smell is very strong, but i just noticed that my shirt smelled like it when i got out. thanks again.
