Changes a coming

I say the OA V2 alll day, but I suppose I'm a bit biased. I want an XFL 15 badly so that would be my number two.

Any of those are going to serve you fine, IMO.

Why do I always see people say you can run way more than RMS on a sub if "you're careful with your gains"? No, that's not how it works. Lowering the gain is going to cause the amp to be less sensitive to the input signal and therefore create less than full power. No $200 sub is going to take 2500w for a week and live to tell about it.

Also, what Dustin said: SSA would be a brand to throw into the loop.

I have no experience with SSA, thats the only reason
And NICK?????
Nick, owner of Obsidian a post below yours is a small list he posted for sale.

SSA is great company with some above average product and amazing customer service. If you don't mind giving them a try, I would highly suggest looking at what options they can offer in your budget.

I think they just mean a larger amp than the subs RMS rating.

Gotcha, didn't put 2 and 2 together....lol

The funny part about @wickedwitt ; comment, I talked with Cadence today about the S2W15. Its rated at 800 watts rms and 1600 peak. I was assured it would handle 1000 to 1200 watts daily and handle this amp at full tilt for comps. Under warranty. And its $178 shipped
I have had over a dozen members say that the XFL will handle way more than RMS. $215 shipped
Right now I am running two Cadence S2W8's, $96 each shipped @ 1ohm @ 44.4vac which is supposedly 1971 watts daily

Not calling you out, just not understanding your comment.

While many subs will take power over rated, there is a very good reason they have their rating. Remember that regardless of what peak power you are running you are not sending your subs that much power all the time. Typically on average it is much much less.

And this I understand. Thats why I said supposedly on my settings. I hardly ever listen to my stereo wide open other than at comps. And then its for 10 secs worth of burps. Plus i have not clamped this amplifier. Will be doing it this summer. So I have no clue how close this amp does to rated, plus I am gonna have to figure in box rise. I figure my two 8's are seeing maybe 600-700 watts each at full tilt.

That would be a safe bet to say in your application. I would go as far as saying that during music they see about half that on average. I see far to often that members don't understand how their amplifiers and ohms law work. Glad you have a better grasp then most, will make for a far easier life ahead of you when you alter/upgrade your setup.

Thanks man. I am always open to learn and its because of members like yourself.

You answered your questions about my post in your own.

They told you 1000-1200w daily, and full tilt (2500w in this case) for burps. What I was saying is that no $200 woofer (typically 400-1000w rated subs) is going to take a fully calibrated 2500w amp daily. Not a clamped 2500w, but a true 2500w amp that is fully gained as high as possible w/out clipping. You would be getting anywhere from 1000-3000w on music and the voice coil(s) would heat up. The sub would die.

I know you weren't calling me out, I was quite vague. Also, you're splitting your current subs across 2 separate motors and voice coils, I was merely speaking to 1 sub. I could probably put 10k on $200 worth of subs and them run fine. It would be 20 $10 subs, but that's not my point.

Gotcha. Thank you for your response

I think most people would be surprised at how much power they are/were actually sending their subwoofers. Almost no one actually clamps their power accurately [with the right meters, method, etc] let alone even tries to clamp their power. Most of them go by what their amp is "rated" at and then they end up clipping the bejesus out of them [which is another form of extreme heat / power] and it ends up cooking the woofer in the end. Proper knowledge is greater than what a random guy down the street tells you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
