okay, use a screwdriver to close the latch (be sure not to close the door while it's like this) and lock it. verify that it is locked via outer handle, while using the screwdriver to try and open the latch (should take only a bit of pressure, no prying) now, unlock the door via switch, or whatever normal operation. see if you can move the rod, or lever further in the direction it traveled, and see again if it is unlocked. chances are, you can fix it with rod adjustment, new rod clip, or striker adjustment. some lightweight oil wouldn't hurt either. there is also the chance, that you found out why people yell when you are trying to open it and unlock at the same time. the way it works is by moving a lever extension on and off the lever, and pulling during this operation can make it partial catch, and break, or damage it. you can find new clips at the parts stor in the "help" items, or doorman bins. you basically spin it on the part that goes in the hole, and that's how it clips on/off the rod, and the rod will slide in/out the hole. the hardest part is making sure you have the rod in the right spot. if you can get everything to work with the door open, and not with it closed, then i would suggest taking it to a reputable body shop. most of the time, that is not the dealership, but i have also been through places that it definitely is. should be a simple door or striker alignment, if that's what is wrong. may even help to leave the door panel off when you go. i've done them as a quicky parking-lot repair, aqnd also had some serious finagling to get it lined up right, but that's usually from an accident, or cheap replacement door.
