Car problem

thats not the alt that is a MAJOR problem had it been a minor electrical problem alt the car would not have started due to a dead battery if it was the battery the car would have never cut off due to the bad battery not quite holding a charge but the alt holding it up now I would look at the ignition or the ecu good luck

ya i figured.. do you think this could be related to my car not starting 4 times in the past month?

what makes u think its the alternator.. my car started up fine.. does what i said describe the situation of a bad alternator?
Its really jsut an assumption based on my experience with a bad alternator once.

Car wouldn't start, I thought it was a dead battery. Got it jumped and it worked just, but then it would happen again. Then again, and then the battery would start lasting half of the time that it did previously until it was down to 20 minute runs, 10 minute runs, then 5. That was a long trip home that night. lol

I think the problem could be related to the factory amplifier. I don't know why, but for some reason the battery in my wifes Celica kept draining after I put the system in it. I unplugged the factory amp, and it never happened again.

weird. ill have to look into that once i get the car back

most likely it is your alt!! you said you jumped it so the batt hurried up and charged from who's every you jumped it from. then it ran on the batt for about 20 min and once the batt finally lost all of it's charge the engine died. now i'm not saying it's not an ignition problem cuz yes it could be but it's most likely an alt problem. the easiest way of testing this is to put a dmm on it when the car is running and see what the batt reads. it should be at least 13.5 volts. if not then it's not charging and if you get a way low reading like 11 or 10 and it goes down real fast then yes the alt is dead end of story.

you can try. but you said they only tested to see if the batt was having a drain out of it and that wouldn't have done it. and the chances are since you've drained it all the way a few times the batt might be shot now. so even once you get it fixed you might have to buy a new batt also but don't quote me on that one

check my edit: also they did check alternator and told it was fine

its possible for the alt to cut in and out, it might have worked when they checked it. doesn't mean that it didnt stop working. have you ever noticed your batt gauge bouncing around on you. that would be the biggest clue. by the way, i know some people who work on cars and they are not smarter than god //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i know they cant know everything but they had my car for a total of 10 days i would think they would be able to if i had a bad alternator..
