If it up and died while driving, it definitely is the alt. The only other option is a shitty *** ground. I had a ground that caused the exact same thing. Car just died, all my lights came on. Gave it awhile, came back. Not five minutes later, off with same symptoms. My car didn't backfire, but that is likely a case by case scenario.

i see... im not saying ur wrong but u can you explain to me why the car wouldnt run off the power stored in the battery until that was gone instead of just dying?

it did run off it for the 20 min you said you ran the car before it died. then after that it would just start back up then shortly die. well thats cuz the batt is already dead and wouldnt run without being charged. you batt has taken a hit since you alt isn't charging it eveytime you start your car. so now your batt is weak and won't run as long as it normally would

yes if it was totally dead then it wouldn't. but i've had the same thing happen to me where the alt dies and the car shuts off on me but then i start it back up and it runs for a few min then dies again.

yes if it was totally dead then it wouldn't. but i've had the same thing happen to me where the alt dies and the car shuts off on me but then i start it back up and it runs for a few min then dies again.

alright.. so so u think maybe if i were able to get another car to the dealership and jump the car and rev the other car and try to charge the battery enough to get me home for a 12 min drive?

would that work?
