Car buying help...

Hey,

I recently purchased a vehicle; I've purchased 3 in the past, but this was the 1st time I've ever purchased a used vehicle...

anyways, I went to a pretty big dealership with a good reputation around here but have recently run into a problem.

I bought a vehicle that was advertized as having a navigation system; the vehicle has a very complex (at least for a dumb guy like me) touch screen media system on it... anyways, I played around with the touch screen media thing a bit but didn't check every feature before buying the car.

Now 2 weeks later, I realize there is no navigation system on it. I still have a copy of the vehicle's advertizement.

I also really liked the salesman despite the fact that this was likely something overlooked by him (they have 100's of vehicles on their inventory), so I believe it was unintentional.

I decided to call the corporate head office of the dealership to report this problem; the lady I spoke to there said that the problem needs to be worked out between myself and the salesman I dealt with...

Does this likely mean that I won't have my problem solved?

And is it my fault for not verifying myself that everything on the ad was actually on the vehicle?

any help guys? I work a job that requires a lot of travel and the Nav system would really make my job easier. I have a store bought $100 nav screen that I use in my other cars, but it's starting to die and not work so I figure I should check into this before buying a new one.

I guess the best you can do talk to the salesman say you were expecting and needing it to have navigation. try get him to foot the bill for one to replace your dieing one.

I highly doubt they will do anything but they might, im sure they will offer you a free maitnence package or something. I will guarantee with almost certainty that they will not take any money back out of their pockets to give you. Might as well go back to the dealership and talk to them though. Maybe if you want, talk to a lawyer about false advertising if it is that big of a deal to you.

pro-bono is basically charity work, which he wont get in this situation. trust me, a lawyer costs more than its worth in this case. small claims court is his best bet if he wants to take legal action

and hell still have to pay for the lawyer....

Here is what they would say. The list of features listed are what would be on it if it were brand new and usually the top of the line model. What they do is put the car model into their system and the list is brought up automatically. They dont check it to see if it matches with what the car has or not. Even if it says sold as is, it means sold as is on the lot not on the website.

Here is how I found out. Early august was looking at 300m's. Found one on sale and decided to take a screen shot of the ad with all the features on it. I end up getting the car on only got one keyless entry remote. I call back the next day and they say we will look for it, guy calls me saying they only had one doesnt remember ever having two. So i tell him car was listed as is and the ad says there are 2 keyless entry remote. Gets the manager and says we dont have the ad anymore so we dont know. I get pissed tell him i can send him a screen shot of the ad so he can take a look and to mail me the second remote listed as soon as possible. He gets my email and calls back saying those features are only generated by their system after they enter a car model in and uses info for the car if it were brand new so they didnt have a second remote but he looked into it and it would only be about 275 to order another with another key and get it programmed to my car. I tell him to screw himself and i wouldnt be doing any more business with him or the car lot ever again. So he blamed it on the system they use and said they couldnt pay for the remote even after i showed them the screen shot of the ad since the car is listed as is but on the lot, not the website.

Just go to the dealership. I am willing to beat they will add it in for free or close to nothing. They might just buy you a garmin or something like that. Alot of dealships would rather pay afew bucks then have you then have you give them a bad name. Even if they don't atleast you tried.

if you go and b!tch enough im sure theyll help you out. if i was in their shoes id much rather spend a few hundred bucks helping a customer then possibly losing business over it
