car audio question: OMG, TIGHT SUB FIT OKAY?

I saw a 12" sub for cheap and thought "what the heck, it'll probably fit SOMEWHERE in my truck (2004 ram quad cab)." Well, I found a place, but its tight.

Minus the area the speaker takes up, there is probably only half-to-one cubic foot of air volume there:

Opinions? Would a sealed box with this sub sound okay?

The speaker only has 1" of excursion, so it shouldn't ever hit the carpeted top of the compartment. The issue is, will the speaker actually sitting on the floor of the compartment hurt performance? Also, will the fact that its firing right into the seat dampen the effect allot?

The rockford fosgate site recommends .65 cubic feet for their 10 inch punch speaker. I estimate that the area inside the box once built would only be (at most) .35 cubic feet. How would this effect sound?

Their 8" is recommended for .35, so I can do that route if the 10" will sound bad. Also, anyone got any idea how the speaker firing into the top of the compartment would effect sound?

i doubt that compartment is very well designed as a speaker enclosure lol.

What is the compartment made of, plastic? Is it solidly mounted in something, or is it kinda "hollow" around the sides of the compartment (so the sides easily resonant)?

That is the center arm rest, not sturdy enough for a sub, and definately not large enough either.

if there is a 'hole' in the back of the speaker (its called a POLE VENT fyi) then you MAY NOT rest it against the back of the 'enclosure' - or else you will most likely cook your driver as this vents heat off the 'voice coil' inside.

id recommend at least 1~2 inches behind as well as in front of the speaker itself. otherwise, you should get an 8" driver instead TBH.

Not quite the center arm rest, its the compartment under the center seat.

I have seen several boxes built for your truck that put a sub underneath the back seat. You can find them on ebay, and use them as a pattern for a box if you wanted to build your own.
