Do both. An MJ18 with 500watt amp would be a nice budget sub for the house. I run 2 15" RL-P's off of 800watts total and it's PLENTY of bass. Enough to wreck stuff in my house and has knocked out my projector bulb once.

But if you're that worried about the cost of electricity then it might not be for you as that's the least of the expenses involved to set up something decent.

Look into making some home made electrostatic walls for you home. That should keep you busy.

It sounds to me like he already has made up his mind on the subject and just wants people to say he is doing the right thing. Are you seriously concerned with electricity for a home system and the weight of your system and its impact on your gas mileage??? If you are that strapped, then you just need to get rid of it all. Anyway...who said you need 1000 watts for a home system anyway?? Wattage is actually regulated and measured using a standard in home audio, where as car audio is mostly a free for all with peak power ratings being used by almost all cheap companies. You need to move up big time in quality in car audio to get honest output ratings. Let's see an amp that only draws 15 amp from your battery but gives you 1100 watts?? We need to look at the math a little and see this is not possible at all. Car audio have been doing this forever because bigger is better. I'm sure that amp will peak out at 1100 watts, if you give it 200 volts or so or if lightning happens to hit it. Most car audio companies also put really inefficient coils in their woofers so they can handle more power...so you need to by a class D amp that can give the power without killing your car's charging system, but kills the woofer with distorion and sounds bad because it can't controll the woofer at all, just so you can say to your friends...mine is bigger than yours. Not saying this is the case with every company, just most. How big is the room you plean to put your home audio system in...start there and find out how many watts you actually need to get the sound you want.....btw, gas is expensive, but the police coming to you door over and over may cost you a little more!

hmm..this may not be the case, but you come off like a complete dick. im not concerned with electricity. im asking if ill see a noticeable jump. just a simple **** question dick. Idk what you're running but 400lbs+ plus a big alt makes a sizable drop in mpg. when im starting at 19, a big drop is NOT nice. your whole rant about peak ratings seems to me like you're being condescending as to the quality of my equipment. my response would be..ur a dumbshit..you know nothing about my setup yet choose to knock it. trust me..im past the stage of "peak ratings". dont make the mistake of thinking you're the only one with a bit of knowledge...dick
