The choice is really up to you ya know? Would you radther have some nice quality sound while sitting on your couch listening to some tunes or having a party or watching a movie, or have some nice sound when your cruising around town? I think it's more a personal preference compared to prices n what not.

ya..i gotcha. i think with gas almost at 4.50 a gallon..ill be driving less and less. I've gone through 26 substages now and i kind of feel like I'm getting bored of it.

what kind of output can I expect from an 18" in home setups? Best I've ever heard was my friends klipsch 12" that shakes his windows. idk what to expect though..

Home theatre is a blast. Enjoying a movie with sound quality that is superior to that which you'd get at a nice theatre in your own room is a good feeling. Not to mention a room in a house is considerably a better place acoustically for sound.

Why can't you come to a happy medium between the two?

final question...HOW MUCH DOES IT CHANGE THE ELECTRIC BILL. I NEED TO HAVE A GENERAL IDEA...

You also have to realize it doesn't take much power in the household environment to get loud at all. We have a Cambridge Soundworks system thats like 8 years old with a 5" sub in a TINY ported enclosure, and output is ridiculous given its size.

Well its like 4.2 cents per killowatt hour were I live so im guessing that if your using 1000 watts it will cost 4.2 cents per hour just for your HT setup. But dont forget to add in all the other crap like taxes and transmission fees/

My system, with the TV and amp going, watching 3 movies a weekend, I don't think I notice a difference in my electrical bill. Nothing like, say, not running the heater or A/C for the last month did for it (a 20% drop or so!).

Just keep in mind plasma TVs throw out the heat. Add that to the heat from the amps and your room can get warm, depending on how big it is.

But seriously, you aren't going to notice your utility bills go up significantly unless you are running the entire system 24/7 and mid-volume.

A neighbor I used to chat with had 2 18" subs from elemental designs in his home theater setup. I personally wasn't too impressed with it. He built two boxes for them, and they had to be at least 84 inches standing up and a foot and a half wide. Yeah, imagine that and say "What the ****" I think he had wayyyy to much room for those subs and they just sounded awful. THey didn't even sound like nice bass notes, it was just like... noise.

I think if you put an 18" in your house with the right enclosure and amp and what not, you'll get a great sound out of it, thing is, you just don't want to overpower your other speakers and just have bass. It's a lot to think about and what not. Just do your homework on everything before you go all out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if you sat around chillin in the house this summer with the ac on at lets say 7-9 pm listening to the home system with 1k watts daily, it would prob be noticable in the bill. might be like runnin a smaller window ac or something. would be worth it imo though. when i hooked up 2 15s a while back to my reciever and watched Pearl Harbor on it when a plane flew by it was like it actually flew by lol, was a pretty badass experience.

I do both...but car audio is my savior....

I can get the hell away from my wife and enjoy some tunes....

Home audio is way more forgiving than car audio when it comes to sound..

Though price is not as forgiving when it comes to quality equipment...

home audio is much much much much more expensive, so if your worried about money then dont go to home audio.

Now if your talking about retarded bass, only then no its not as expensive. There is alot more than just subs to "audio"
