Car audio in the winter (cold?)

it depends on the specific equipment in question...the easy one- amps are a gamble..... many times, i've had the caps explode from sheer cold (this also takes the battery out with it in most cases) as for the sub, well, rubber/butyl surrounds can turn rock solid in sub-zero, and just get stiff in freezing. usually a warm-up of both the vehicle and sub will loosen them up, but if the sub is not moving, the coil isn't cooling, and then there is the stress induced by stiff components. it is most common to see different types of foam surrounds also crack and split predominantly in the cold, not to say they wouldn't normally wear out and crack with time, just more so in the cold. only things i take the systems out of for the winter is my toys not driven then, mainly to prevent theift, other than that, i judge the sub, and warm up accordingly.

I live in NYC and during the winter i leave them in.

For the first 5-10 minutes i only play it at about 1/4 volume until things get moving and warmed up and then i turn it up. just to be on the safe side.

he is in the northwest territory or the canadian shield or something :p

who doesnt like to burp their high output system when there is a foot of snow on the car! themz fun times!

I've never had any issues, Insulation/Dynamatt stuff like that can help out big time, if you have an SUV just warm it up before cranking it, If you have a car with back seats that fold down keep them down and warm it up too.

Who is getting ready for some cold MN winters though? Like, last week it was ****** 80 degrees and this morning there was frost on the ground/cars

FML

Luckily i live in Miami so that issue never arises for me...We finally got our first cold front of the year. 66 degrees feels good right now rather than 90 degree weather.
haha 66 degrees here man **** would start MELTING!
