Car audio help needed !

Hey all,

I currently just got a system installed in my hyandia iload 2013 work van -

Speakers on the doors

Amp and sub behind seat

* alpine SPS-610C

* sound stream ROK-135B

*DB drive amp - DKUR or DHUR A6 1200:4 (1200w 4ch)

Standard head unit

The sound seems kinda basic is there a way to improve the sound volume??

If I change my headunit will that change dramatically ?? And if so what would you recommend for my car? I was thinking off maybe a double din rather than single din if that helps?

Currently I believe the speakers and sub are hooked up to the amp not the headunit.

Hello and welcome,

Much more information is needed if you want decent suggestions/advice.

How are the components you describe connected??? What are they connected to?

Are you using the factory radio/stereo?

What are you hoping to achieve?

What is your budget? Probably the most important question.

If you have a large volume...a work van?...you are going to have more of a challenge than in a car, etc. right from the start. Is it an open van filled with tools, etc.?

A good quality, after market head unit generally sounds better than the factory radio/stereo...single din or double doesn't make a difference regarding sound, where specs are the same, you just get more display and display functions, etc. compared to a double din.

Hi Kai, thanks for your fast reply!

Ok..

The end result I want to achieve is generally good loud music, typically listen to rnb and a bit off house music so have to cater for both.

I am not so tech savvy, however there are 3 sets of speaker cables run back to the amp I assume each speaker runs back to the amp. Also the sub goes back, however I believe they could off put some device behind the headunit to make it sound a bit better due to still using factory head unit.

Yes open van filled with tools.

Budget $500 - $2000 just want to get good loud quality music happening.

start with a pioneer 80 prs for single din or 2700bs for double din.

Get pro audio drivers or mod your doors to fit an 8 or so. If not then there's loud 6.5s you can use.

get two of these UN-65 6.5" Loudspeaker - Crescendo Audio Factory Direct Online Store

paired with this. Image Dynamics XS28 1" XS Series Silk Dome Tweeter

with these properly setup, its not a matter of how loud can you get, its a matter of how much you can handle before tapping out.

let us know your length x width x height space you are willing to give up and we will talk subwoofers. You'll want a dedicated subwoofer amp. sounds like you are using rear channels of your 4 channel which is junk for sub duty/power

You will be running active because the head units i listed will have that advanced capability.

You will power the tweeters seperately and the midranges seperately. All crossed over on the head unit.

If you really want to retain the factory head unit, you'll need a high end processor like alpine pxa-h800 which is $$$ which is just a box full of sound quality magic. Seriously though it costs a lot and takes a lot of time to tune, usually 3-6+ hours on average for a proper tune done by people who know exactly what they are doing, There are a lot of quacks out there claiming they are professional installers but they dont know jack sh*t. You best bet is to get rid of the junk stock head unit because stock head units are utter garbage for car audio audio. Right now your stock head unit basically limits any hopes of good results you can ever achieve.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks heaps for that!

Ok I'll go for the items you talked about

I'll order all parts and I'll get them to install just so I know there is quality and they won't be installing crap.

So to order is new headunit double din

* pair off tweeters to replace

* new set off speakers to replace

All this can get powered off the amp that I am using at the moment I assume

And I just gotta do a few moss first before I can determine a box size for the sub but definitely need another amp just for the sub?

Just when ordering the parts I see there is an impedance off 4 or 8 should I be sticking to one or the other ??

So all this I should expect at least better quality off sound

Thanks heaps

4 ohms. It should sound a lot better and way louder as well. Alpine Type S series s*ck.

For your amp, have the tweeters on channel 1 and two and use the high pass set it to maximum 3khz set it to high pass instead of full.

channel 3 and 4 for the mids have it low pass set to the maximum 3khz

one of the switches have the LP/BP switch 12 db stereo

hear them in person and you'll understand why i recommend them. Better than sundown neo pros, beyma, prv, seleniums
i love the way they look.. if i got them i wouldn't cover them that's for sure.. wonder what the xmax on them is? i'm not knocking your or your recommendations no disrespect just I PERSONALLY think the fs is too high but it is a PA driver after all.. hows things going with the install? i didn't see any videos! i guess i missed the build log..

well swapped the JL for the ppi and got way louder, enough to keep up now. However lost a lot of detail in the highs and midbass and some male vocals. It is what it is for now. getting replacement RCAs and need to move the midbasses into the doors. No build log until its complete, i dont like doing those build logs where it drags on for months.
