Cap quality

is there really any difference in the performance quality of caps? since the car im in now is only a temp for the next couple monthe i dont want to get a HO alt so big 3 and cap is going to have to do. from what im understanding since i dont listen to music with my car off adding another bat isnt going to do nothing but hinder my setup with the stock 120 amp alt.

im looking on ebay and you can get some nice power acoustik 3 farad caps for like 60 shipped NIB but ones from a little more reputable brands in the 3 to 5 F area like tsunami are like 130 shipped. so will i really see a difference in quality between some of the more reputable brands? 60 is a lot nicer then 130. thanks for the insight.

omg...caps are FUKKING worthless.....please do not try to mask an insufficient electrical system with a cap. either get a kinetik HC600 or bite the bullet and get a HO alty. in the end if your running more power than your alt can support you simply must replace it to push more power. and YES there is a huge difference in caps...the cheap ones have a high ESR which is the rate which they discharge thus rendering them worthless if they have such small amount of power AND discharge at rate of a bat...on the other hand if you get a kinetik HC600 you get a low ESR...(quicker discharging than most caps) plus you get a ton more juice than even the biggest cap

but from what im understanding (and keep in mind its been about a month since i started reading everything i could about CA) is that without a HO alt a second battery is just going to F the alt since its just another large load. i dont want to set it up for when the car is off as i stated. please correct me though. i thought that without a better alt, a second battery set up without a iso is really not good for your shit.

Just get a good 2nd batt that you can transfer to the new vehicle. I'm running 2 batts and had to send my HO alt in for some mods. Ran with the stocker for 4+ weeks without any problems. System is about 2200RMS...

yeah that is basically correct. but the thing is a cap is the same thing as a battery except for 2 THINGS...1. smaller amount of power 2.quicker discharge rate

a cap hinders the alternator the sameway a bat does....it makes the alt have to charge not only the amp but charge the bat (or cap). since caps have much smaller capacitys its less noticeable. however there is typically no use for a cap because the alternator gets juice to the amp jsut as quick as most caps do. batterys can serve a purpose because they have a MUCH higher energy capacity. almost all of those cheaper caps **** because it takes so long for them to discharge...i too run a 120 amp alt... im running about 1300 watts rms give or take if you want to find out the amount of power u can use heres the equation

AMPS X VOLTS X efficiency (85% if a class D amp) = WATTS

since you have the same alt as me expect a similar amount. make sure u have big 3 done and then get a HO alt...i know it sucks but a bat nor a cap will mask a bad electrical system

thank you very much. i love when people explaine there logic so i actually learn something instead of just going "yea the dude on CA said this is how it goes."

only problem is im running a 120A alt and soon to be Big 3 and the system thats going in is 2500 watts RMS. so basicly without a bigger alt im screwed or is there a way to lessen the blow of a shitty alt?

so basicly a cap is a cheap battery and really is pointless if you have the cash to get a good battery.

thanks again brotha.
