i have a jl 500/1 powering a jl 13w3v3 in the manual recommended ported box tuned to 27. it hits the lows well but i cant pick up the higher notes. the main reason i got back into car audio is because i heard my friends 13w6 and the first note of lil wayne's lollipop had my ears ringing

two popular songs that you should know that has highs id like to hit is...

TI- what you know ..... the main bass line i dont get the highs

lil wayne - lollipop.... the first loud higher bass note i dont get. when it drops low i get it

i assumed it was because i had a larger subwoofer but thats obviously not the case. just listened to my brothers system (kicker 15" L5 on a jl 500/1) and it clearly hits harder and gets the highs.

do you recommend building a new ported box tuned to a higher hz to get higher notes? im still gonna continue researching but opened this thread for your input. thanks in advanced.

do you have a slot ported box or aeroport box? i'd say tune more toward 33-35hz to get the upper end while still clinging on to some lowZ
i have a slot port

I would tune to at least 31, you may also have too little port area. Or it could be one of those times where I get to make fun of JAY ELLE
i think my box is the problem. guess i should of researched it before i made it. im sure my imperfections doesn't help too... what other brands do YOU like? im considering getting a 15" kicker l5 like my brother because our setup as of now, mine doesn't compare. now if theres a way to find what his box is tuned to, then i make one to that tune and THEN we comepare... was also looking at FI

probably need to tune around 32hz...I'd prefer to keep the lows though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
i like the lows too but i dont like having ONLY the lows :-(

Have you checked all of your settings on your HU and amp to make sure you don't have the sub crossed too low?
i recently was rooting around my alpine 9856 HU and i changed two of the settings. i had the bass frequency on 80hz which i changed to 120hz, and i changed the bass bandwidth setting from 1 (narrow bass frequencies) to 4 (wide bass frequencies so it boosts a wider range)

open and extend your port
whats your port specs

who bets its his port??? i do

ill be right back with those specs

A box tuned to 30-35hz will hit the higher bass all day.

If you're that concerned about high bass, get a couple 6.5" mid woofers and amp them up.

they're not 100% dead accurate because it was my first box and i didnt take into account to subtract and add some dimensions for the wood thickness..

"higher bass" ? You mean midbass? Turn the xover point on the low pass up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
i guess its midbass? ill go fiddle with it for a few...

With the jl 500/1 you have a switch for off, 12db/24db. And the potentiometer goes from 40-200hz I believe. Turn it up to around 80hz or so, set the switch to 12db and see if some of the "high bass" comes back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
