So I'm going to buy a subwoofer but I can't decide what I should get. The one I have in my mind right now is Kicker 15L7, 1000 RMS, 2000 Watt total. I can grab one of these for $200 on eBay which I believe is a good price for this piece. I'm not very knowledgeable about subs so if you have any suggestions for the $0-350 price range, I'd love to hear them. I have an Audio System F2 500 amplifier by the way, it supports up to 1200 RMS.

First of all, nice amp.

There is quite a large list for woofers in that price range.... Kicker L7, RE SX, Alpine Type-R, DC LVL 4, IA Death Row, AA Havoc, FI Q, AQ HDC3 etc.

Out of those i'd take either DC LVL4, RE SX, or the HDC3

Thanks for the quick reply CobraStang98.

I've seen HDC3 being mentioned a lot over L7's on this forum. But then again, I've heard of HDC3's only on this forum, never even heard of AQ till today. I visited their website and it didn't look very professional to me. What is the RMS value for HDC3 15 inchers? Also, I'm not planning to go dual, do you think one 1000 RMS sub gonna be enough? I'm not looking for something uber good, I wanna buy the best I can for my money though.

I'm seriously considering HDC3's now. Will my amp be enough for it? Also, should I go for two HDC3 12 inchers (maybe if I can find a bargain for used ones) or one 15 incher? Which would be a better setup in your opinion?

1 15 will please you the most, get the copper coil if you buy new. No need for the aluminum. I think the DC Level 4 would make you happy too. Im pretty sure the LEvel 3 Can handle your power as well. I would take a Level 4 over a HDC3

Thanks everyone for their suggestions so far, appreciate it.

mlstrass, thanks for the offer. I'm actually thinking about visiting Six Flags some time in June, I'll contact you then. I'd love to see them in action. Do you know any good place where I can buy AQ products around Chicago area by the way?

Oh by the way, any speakers you can suggest to go with the HDC3 15" or SDCs so all I hear is not the bass? Looking for something cheap.

AQ is online only, so you buy direct from them. Otherwise I have a DD9515g that I might be selling, but with your amp I'd really do 2 12" SDC's.

What vehicle do you have?

Powerbass comps/coax's and a Profile amp all from millionbuy is very budget friendly and will sound pretty good also. I've installed numerous sets of them...

I have a 2008 Ford Fusion Hatchback.

What's the difference between copper and aluminum coil by the way? I see on the website that there is $80 difference between the two. Also, D1 or D2?

alum VC is for higher power handling, you don't need that with your amp.

Are you going with a single HDC or 2 SDC's? Assuming you want a final 1ohm load then D2 for a single sub and D1's for 2 subs.

I've got a box for a single 15, 4.25cubes, 80+^2 port area, tuned to 40Hz, so perfect for a DD or AQ sub. Made out of baltic birch.

Specs:

38 1/2" wide

18 1/2" high

16" deep

Not sure if it would fit your car, but if you're interested let me know...

I'll probably get a single HDC. I was actually thinking about a closed, portless box. What dimensions and area should I go for with a closed box?
