cannot get voltage reading

I have this DMM and I set it at 200 DC, I stick it in the speaker wire holes and nothing. Just a negative sign next to some 0's. I just bought the meter, it works, but is sort of confusing. Any suggestions?

Try setting the DMM to AC current. That is what your amplifier puts out into the speakers.

Try AC voltage...not current

Like they said...set the DMM to AC Voltage instead of DC. Music and sinewaves are AC, not DC.

If he's set on 200 VDC, he's not going to read any AC voltage going to the speakers, unless he's got a dc offset going to them which is very rare.
