Can someone give a detailed explanation of an 'active' setup?

Basically every driver will have it's own channel on an amp. Therefore allowing more flexibility for eq'ing, phasing, imaging, and crossover points. You will need a seperate crossover, or a hu that has a nice built in crossover.

Makes it easier to tweek to perfection! A HU with a built in Xover would be easier!

Alright, I am going to to put my neck out here and ask anyway, buuutttt...

Would it be possible to go active with an Alpine 9833 HU if I amped the tweets from the HU and mids from my amp?

...or would I be sacrificing sound quality this way?

I am assuming he is going to be buying a seperate crossover. Maybe??

I did not know an additional was needed, hence why I am asking. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, going active would require 2 separate amps AND a crossover?

...or would internal x-overs in the amp suffice?

I am not familiar with the alpine 9833's features, so I really cannot comment on it. Imo yes you should pick up the 2100XXK for the tweets. Much cleaner signal and more power. If the deck has a built in crossover that does what you want it to do you could use the deck. I will be using my drz's built in crossover. Again I don't know the decks features so, if it does not then you would want to look into a seperate crossover. A seperate crossover will more than likely give you more flexibility than your HU.

Edit: Also the amount of amps is not relevant. Each driver just needs to have a dedicated channel. But yes in your case it would be two amps and most likely a seperate crossover.
