Can someone explain to me...?

I guess I just don't understand the voltage specification of an amplifier. I see amps being rated at such and such wattage at 12 volts and then a greater wattage at 14.9 volts. I understand that you will get more wattage from an amp when you have greater voltage coming into it, but I don't think I've ever seen a car battery that is not 12.6 volts. So, how do you get 14.9 volts?

Can someone inform me as to how amplifiers are getting 14 volts from a 12 volt battery? Please excuse my ignorance...I would like to learn a little something here. I am not even sure I am explaining properly what I am asking for, I am just hoping you understand the gist of my request.

from the alternator, put a multimeter on your batt. when it's running and you will see what voltage it is putting out

yes! i remember having a low end setup and it always read 11.8-13v's, is it an electrical upgrade issue? if so, is there a rule of thumb or just have more than what you need always?

thats my rule of thumb ...lol .. ALWAYS have more than you need. When it comes to electrical ....and amps.... and subs .... and horsepower.....and torque ..... and DEE BEEZ .......

Usually you can times 8 by the rms you are running to get a rough idea of what size alt you need.

high output alternator with external voltage regulator/module or a complete 16/18 volt charging system conversion.

They're not getting 14+V from a battery. They're getting 14+V from the alternator.

This has been beat in the ground but to add there are 14v batteries but they need a 16v charging system.
