hey,

I had a kicker L7 duel vc 4-ohm sub running off my amp with only 1 vc hooked up ... (because i really never knew how DVC worked) ( the sub ended up not working anymore.)

now i jus have bought a kicker L7 duel vc 2-ohm sub and im wiring it like this when it comes in:

pos from the amp to 1 pos on the sub

neg from the amp to the 2 neg's and the pos

What way will sound better? the 2-ohm sub using both voice coils or my old 4-ohm sub using 1 voice coil?

Thanks

Oh my...

Positive to positive, neg to neg = a 1 ohm load.

YOu will want to hook up the coils neg to pos, neg to pos to get a 4 ohm load.

YOu have only one coil hooked up how you say... DONT RUN YOUR SUB! HOOK THE COILS UP RIGHT!

You need to hook up both coils or it will destroy the sub.

Edit... I'm not entirely sure how yu have it hooked up from your description...

Oh dear.

To get a 4 ohm load with your DVC 2ohm sub using both coils do this

The illistration shows two subwoofers, this relates to your sub as a DVC sub is basically two voice coils connected to one cone.

Actually, you can safely run 1 coil, but powerhandling is cut in half. There's an Adire Tech paper on this exact subject.
Yah, but Id think one coil would deteriorate faster... making the ohm load on one coil slightly different. Plus, who wants only one nut? Get only half the job done? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif Good info anyway tho bro, i never knew that.

lol is the pic i sent the way to do it or is the pic he sent the way to do it because in buddys pic it shows a 4ohm sub and i have 2 ohm sub
The pic you put up is a DVC 2ohm wired for a 4ohm load which is exactly what you want.

By using only one VC you are free to do whatever you want with the other VC.
