Can I run a 2ohm amp at 1ohm?

Like the title says,

I have an XTRPRO 2400 and as it says its only stable to a 2ohm load can I run it at 1ohm and if so what are the risks of doing so as well as downfalls? Will this shorten the life of my amp or just plain out wreck it?

Thanks,

Chad

i wouldn't recommend it...that's how i run my 2 channel amps, but i've only blew 5 of 'em (lol thank god for warranties)....but it'll more than like'ly overheat and shorten the life of the amp

Depends on the amp... I'm not gunna do your homework, but go see if it's 1-ohm stable... if not, might as well not try.

It can either over-heat, or I think even send a surge of power to your subs and there goes your VC.

Like they said... I tried something similar with an off brand amp and it kept going into protect, so I installed a computer fan to keep it cool... about 2 weeks later it got so hot that the plastic around the ground terminal melted and literally dripped off of the amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Be careful not only for the safety of the amp but the safety of you and your car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

research the amp first make sure it's one ohm stable. actually not just stable make sure it can actually handle it. there's alot of companies that say stable but the amp will barely handle it and it gets so hott it will slowly kill the amp.
