can dimming damage my electrical?

i bought my 180 amp alt about 3 months ago. the amps at idle completely ****, and i'm getting some bad dimming, even without my system on. besides annoying the mess out of me, im not totally sure if i really NEED to replace it. when i'm driving down the road it does fine. but im wondering if i should buy a stock one to replace it. can this hurt my cars electrical? my volt read out on my amp says it dips down to about 13.5-7 volts when its dimming, but recharges back to normal after a few secs. what should i do?

I think he meant 13.5 - 13.7? If thats the case, its not really a problem at all.
