Can a dead battery kill an amp?

Hey guys. I was installing my KAC 927, and my battery went dead and I heard the amp clicking on and off before it stayed off. I hooked good power back up to it, and I'm getting nothing. Usually on the Kenwoods, I get the green light, then red when powered up. Fuses are still fine as well.

Any ideas? Is this amp shot?!

a dead battery shouldnt ofkilled it, anything can happen though

is the batt you replaced good?

check the remote wire

use a dmm and check the power wire at the amp to see if there is power flow

im confused how in the world does a amp go "dead" DURING a install? battery shouldnt even be connected or are you saying that it went dead after you installed it?

It was during the testing stage. The car battery was run down from having the dome lights on so long (stupid to not realize I know). But I heard the amp click on and off a few times. Then stayed off when the car battery went totally dead.

I was just wondering if a dying battery would cook an amp like that. I think it may have ruined the turn on relay? Thats what I heard clicking. And no, I havent tried hooking it back up yet. Thx.

Those 927s are real finicky about anything unusual happening during their install. I had one I bought from eBay that was working just fine. Sold it to a buddy who touched a positive speaker output wire to a wrong terminal (he still cannot tell me why the amp/stereo was turned on while he was moving wires around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) and as soon as that speaker wire touched metal? ZAP! No more output. The amp will power on and then immediately go into protect.

Yes, a low battery can kill an amp. Overcurrent in the powersupply caused by exceeding the dutycycle of the powersupply as it trys to make designed rail voltage out of a very low volyage and uses excessive amounts of current to do it.

dead battery probably didnt kill it, low voltage is probably the culprit, as stated above me.
