Can a Battery permanently lose amp hours?

Hey guys, couldn't seem to find any info by searching so figured I'd ask here.

A guy is selling a shiruken 70ah battery on craigslist for 65 bucks and I wanted to pick it up. When I contacted him, he said the battery only had about 35 amp hours left. I can't seem to find any info stating that batteries can permanently lose amp hours, so is this guy a dummy or is the capacity of the battery able to be halved over time?

Find out how old it is. I wouldn't buy a battery 2-3yrs old. Then resting voltage should be at least 12.4v more like 12.7 and above.. Really u should load test it and make sure it's good.

Have him meet you at autozone or a parts store and have it load tested ...if it test good buy it..the guy selling is full of shlt by the way lol

Yeah I kinda figured he was full of it or trying to get rid of a **** battery. I have a multimeter so I could test it for voltage but I don't wanna chance it because this would be going under the hood. Maybe it'd be better suited for the trunk?

A multimeter wont help he could have just charged it and it could read good ..u need to meet him and have a load test..if it doesnt test good its bad period .whether using it for main or secondary battt

Have him meet u at a parts store and have it load tested .its free..and if he refuses stay away. If it test good buy it

I see it now, thanks. Thanks to everyone for the helpful ibformation. I messaged him asking if he'd be willing to meet at advance auto to test it, currently awaiting a response

They will tell you if its bad or not and give you a printout of the test
