anyways, yeah to go a real college. At the very least, they'll be some hot chicks attending there that you can bang. Ive never known any hot chicks to attend a car audio school //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
Lol, true well cant I do both though?

Ive been to a CA school, I was lucky. My father worked as a machinist for Metra Electronics (h/u dash kits) when they opened Installer Institute. I got to go for free. I would never recommend paying the enrollment prices these schools ask. Its not a bad way to learn, but the price is ridiculous beyond belief. And the industry is really shaking up for local shops right now, due to the internet sales. And now the down-turn in the economy. I wouldn't recommend pursuing a career in this business, honestly.

Your an idiot, and yea im sure my dads an idiot lol he would laugh at you, how are they stupid for trying to open new assets? Which it will be because all the CA shops around here are rocking the sony xplod shit. I could sell middle line shit to the mexicans around here and theyd be having a fiesta, ***.

After that response, i'm sure you and your father are idiots. How about doing a little market research prior to deciding that " I kn0w everything! I go to CA.com! DADDY can I have som3 m0n3yz so I can 0pen a sh0p that will end up being a horrible investment." If your father will pour money into a failing business, than he is more of an idiot than I gave him credit for. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yea sounds like im still going to go to the school just to learn things I may not have learned. Im gonna go to a local shop and see if I can voluntarily work there for like a year.
If you can sparethe time, that is a good idea.

I've been wanting to apprentice as a welder/metal worker to get more fabrication skills but havent had the time.

Look what Jesse James has done with success and he was an apprentice at like 5 different types of trades.

sorry for grammar mistakes i have a boxers break in my hand. only using one hand to type.
You're idea of what it will be like, and how it will actually turn out and pretty far off. Just because you'll be stocking companies other than Sony, how do you go about getting people to buy into them? Sony may be sub par but that's what the average customer knows and will buy. We've all seen people come on here brainwashed by the big companies. Problem is, people usually aren't going to take your word on something when a huge established company like Sony is available around the corner. How long have you been installing for? What kind of installs? You planning on being the salesman and installer at the same time? Good luck but I think you need to think a little harder.

Edit:Just so you don't think I'm just rambling, I work at a shop now. The money is decent, but then again I didn't take the job for the money. I've been installing for roughly 3 years with no certification. My first week, I was hard pressed to finish installs. I thought I had a good handle on installing but there's no replacement for experience. There is a master installer at the shop and seeing someone at that level of certification is impressive. But he makes 4% more than I do, on commission only. Even he says the schooling was not worth the gains he's seeing now.

Lots of truth in this post.

Also, how will you get dealer lines to sell. Not all brands will give you their product just because you have money to buy it. They want to protect their name and want to see that you have an established shop before giving you their product.

And you say you have been on here learning and doing some installs...I'm sorry but work in a shop for at least two years and see how much more you know then you do now. Not putting you down but when I first got into it I thought I knew a lot working on my 95 Escort and my friends camaro...I got lucky getting a job at a shop and I was amazed at how much I learned day to day and couldn't beleieve I thought I knew what I was doing before.

Don't open a shop...work at a shop for awhile and then decide if you want to...or get a degree...EE FTW!

I will go to school and work in a shop before doing this, but I have done a lot of installs myself already including my 2006 mercedes c230, and trust me its not easy putting 2 15's in my car. The shops said they couldn't do it, and I did. That tells you something.
