Buying new 10s or 12s...looking for SQ

We really cannot tell you what will satisfy your desire for 'sound quality'. We aren't you, and we really wont know what you like/dislike. And at some point, when comparing very similar 'SQ' subs, you will see more difference in chosing the right (or wrong) enclosure size/type/alignment, than in which name brand is on the dust cap.

A single sub system can have as much, or more output than a dual setup. Dont let that concern you.

Ok, then you personally, if you had $300 to spend and those brands to choose from what would you end up with? I'm looking for the most crisp sounding bass possible if that makes sense.

Btw if you were to sell your IDQ 10s how much would you be looking for? How much power should each receive?

So right now the two on top of my list are the TC-1000 and the DIYMA 12" I would probably get two of either. How much power would I need to send to these subs?
Would a Mag D2 at about half power beat these in terms of sound quality? I'm not interested in SPL.

What other SQ subs should I be considering? It seems like the ID subs are a little too expensive on the website...maybe if I can find them used though.

Power requirements are gonna depend on your box size, typically a smaller box will require more power to get your desired output levels, but like I said power is cheap these days 500 watts per DIYMA 12 in a .5 cube sealed box would be plenty in my eyes, but then again the 1000 watts rms I was running to my Dayton RS HO 12 was plenty of output for my self, and my goals are similar to yours, I want sound quality before anything.

IDQs will give great sq, but will lack a bit on the lower frequencies. I'd recommend a 15" for an iDQ, or an iDmax for greater output on the lower frequencies. The iDmax will require a bit more wattage, though.

on a side note. Image Dynamics makes some of eD subs.

also i think he really wants a TC oem because they are sexy as hell. but a little power hungry imo.

Could you suggest a good amp for a 12" TC-1000? It should get about 400-500 wrms correct? Also, can someone explain the difference between single and dual voice coils? I'm a noob I'm sorry.

There's no performance difference between dual and single coils they just offer you different wiring options.

dual voice coil just give u the benefit of giving the amp different impedance loads to work with. If you have dual 4 then u can wire it to 8 or 2ohms, and not just be stuck with 4ohms, as you would with a single voice coil sub. Hope that helps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Image Dynamics makes some of eD subs.
The eD drivers are built in iowa in house right now. ID really isn't affiliated with eD anymore.

JL w3v2 is a nice driver too that might be worth looking into also. Used market for those sometimes allows them to be had for a pretty darn good price.

So if I got a TC-1000 in a dual 4-ohm configuration I could wire it to 2 ohms to allow my amp to put out more power correct? So I should be shopping for an amp that can do about 400-500 @ 2 ohms x 1?

Also, for a sealed enclosure the recommended size for the TC-1000 is 1.1 ft^3 for a small enclosure and 2.0 ft^3 for a large enclosure....which would produce better sound assumming that I have the space for either?

i think it all depends on the sound that you want. I would imagine that in a bigger enclosure you will be able to hit the low end better? Not too sure on that though. But i do know that in a bigger box it will lower the power handling of the sub.

type r's man. they rock all around. alot of peopel will thell you everyone has them. but thats because there the best bang for the buck. if you care about good sounding music and geting some real power then go type r.
