Bolting box to frame = more SPL?

Will bolting down the box to my chassis make it hit any harder? Or will it just make everything rattle to death?

A friend has his box bolted to his frame and it pounds but I cant tell if its the box or the fact that its mounted because I never heard it when it was not mounted.

might gain u a few tenths of a db, but i dont think it would make any audible difference...

bolting box to frame = you keeping your box, and more than likely your woofers when your car gets broken into. Bolting it down would also keep your box from sliding around, possibly cuasing damage to your equipment. its most likely your friends box that is making the woofer loud.

Bolting your box to the floor should help transfer vibrations to the vehicle. Since many of the freqs the sub(s) will produce are felt rather than heard, feeling more = more perceived output at those lowest freqs. Will this make an audible difference? Well that would depend on each individual situation. Yes, it does make a performance difference, and I recommend securing the enclosure solid for this reason... not to mention the safety factors already mentioned.

If transfering more low freq vibrations to your vehicle means too much rattling, Id suggest more sound deadening, not an enclosure flopping around in the trunk.

Do people put brackets on the back of the box to the frame, or do you mean putting bolts inside the bottom of the box through the frame?

Ok thanks. Just figuring out ways to keep my box in my trunk, probably going to put the amp on the back of it. Some kids at my job have systems who think theirs are the ^$*%. They have sony exploded subs...enough said . When they asked what i was getting they saw a pic (tc 10 oem) and looked like they wanted it. Want them to have some suprises if they try to steal it.
