Buying new 10s or 12s...looking for SQ

I realize that you all have a lot of good stuff to sell but I am more interested in knowing if you had $500 to spend on subs+amp what would you buy? I have been offered two RD Audio Studio 12s plus an RD audio 500.1 amp and I was wondering how these subs would be?

Also, how would some other more known brands like Eclipse, Rockford Fosgate, Kicker, etc be in this price range? Again I am probably looking for a sealed system to save space.

If you are willing to buy used then check out the for sale threads, there are always killer deals. I saw some older type R's on there for pretty cheap earlier, my amp on there for 225 shipped is pretty good considering its 1100+ Eclipse Amp

If you're looking to save space, IMO I don't think you can find a driver like the DIYMA 12. In it's price range, I don't think you'll find something that will have similar output, lower distortion and work in that small of a box, it only needs about .5 cubic foot, and can work in SMALLER boxes, granted yes in this situation it may require a bit more power because of the small box requirements, but power is cheap these days.

diymobileaudio.com there's a picture of it on the front page.

So right now the two on top of my list are the TC-1000 and the DIYMA 12" I would probably get two of either. How much power would I need to send to these subs?

Would a Mag D2 at about half power beat these in terms of sound quality? I'm not interested in SPL.

What other SQ subs should I be considering? It seems like the ID subs are a little too expensive on the website...maybe if I can find them used though.

Mags are more expensive than IDs....

You should check out the IDQ. From what I have heard, they have about the best SQ you can find, but not a lot of output.

I would go with 2 Mach 5 Audio 10's, they have been reviewed and sound better than IDQ's. They are also cheap, 50.00 a piece. Another alternative is to go with 2 Ascendant Audio Assasssin 10's or even 1 for that matter. I have 1 AA Assassin 10 right now and it sounds unreal in a sealed enclosure and is loud. The final option is the TC sounds tc1000 10 or 12, I just purchased the 12 and plan on a sealed enclosure.

For the amp, with any of the above solutions you can get the amp parts express has on buyout the Buttkicker Silent Subwoofer amp. 400x2 or 800x1, it's 2ohm stable stereo and mono plus a thd of 0.05. I have heard it powering a Mach 5 MJ18 and it sounds outstanding. The amp is 88.00 so if you go with the TC's you would probably want 1 amp for each sub. If not the other subs could be put on seperate channels.

If I were to go with 2 TC-1000s what amp would you suggest? Also, would it be fine to just go with one TC-1000?

Also, how is the sound quality of the Fi SSDs?

If I were looking for SQ, Id buy IDQ's... which is why I suggested them and said I might be interested in selling mine. Uhm look around, like 3 or 4 people have recommended the brand/model in this thread alone.

But believe whatever you want.

Hey sorry man I didn't mean to insult you. I just felt like everyone was telling me what they had to sell instead of making suggestions.

Right now I'm almost more confused than when I started learning about this. Here are the brands I am considering:

TC Sounds

Fi

Elemental Designs

Eclipse

Mach 5

OZ

IDQ

I will be getting either one or two 12s probably. How are the Fi's and ED's on SQ?

Is there a disadvantage to going with one more expensive sub rather than two slightly cheaper ones?

If I were to go with one Fi SSD with about 600w rms would I be happy with the sound quality? I'm hesitant to go with only one sub because every system I have ever heard had 2 but I realize this isn't a good reason. Of the brands I listed above what would you choose? I'm leaning towards 1 Fi SSd, TC-1000, or ED 13ov.3
