I am new to car audio and am not totally sure on what the best products are out there. I'm looking for a set of 6.5" components with an RMS rating around 60-75 watts, nothing loud enough thats going to deafen me. What I am really looking for is high sound quality and good bass/midbass output. It would be great if anyone could reccomend me a set. So far what I have had my eyes on are :

JL VR 650- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11418

JL C5-650- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18629

Alpine SPX-17REF- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18520

MB Quart PVF 216- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17696

Kicker 04SS65.2- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14417

what does everyone think? any advice on buying components would really be appreciated. Also I dont mind spending the money for higher end speakers after all you get what you pay for right? I have a couple more wuastions as I am new to this stuff, when I buy an amp for my speakers does the amps rms NEED to match the speakers rms for them to sound properly? And also, where are the crossovers in a compontent set mounted? thanks a lot

I have these in my ride, the coaxials. Absolutely outstanding speakers. And per the president of JL himself, better sounding than their flagship ZR's. I encourage you to find a dealer and get a listen.

I get chills when I turn them up and the congas and trombones start coming in in my salsa tracks. So clear. Hendrix and Zepplin, even played some classical on them the other day too and they sounded so freakin good. Very rich and vibrant sound, but not too harsh and no sense of "blooming" or added color. Very natural sounding.

I've owned MB Quarts, the JL VR's, Alpines, and now these. the C5's are the best I've ever owned.

I'd go with these : http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8921_MB+Quart+PVF+216.html

I took a look at the C5-6.5's the other day. Seems like a solid set of speakers, but I couldn't audition them since the shop is redoing their showroom and sound board. They should be able to take a clean 2x120-150w rms easily.

The PPI's linked above would be a great choice, as would the Pioneer Premier TS-C720PRS's.

those new type x mids look crazy

Those PPI's look very interesting, is there anything else anyone could tell me about them? I'm still curious about the Kickers i listed too, the listed msrp is like 1000 bucks so they must be pretty good? Also Im still wondering if I need an amp that matches my speakers RMS rating or not, like for 75W rms speakers will they sound ok hooked up to a 60Wrms amp? other than that thanks a lot for all the input is has helped a lot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

More is always better. You can control the amount of power going to the speakers setting the amp's gain control by using the following formula:

SQRT(WATTS*OHMS)=OUTPUT VOLTAGE

example:

You have an amp that is rated for 2x200w rms, and want to send 2x120w rms to a set of 4 ohm speakers factory rated at 85w rms each.

SQRT(120*4)= 21.91V

You can set the amp's gain so that the measured output (with a DMM) to the speakers is 21.91V. For more info on how this is done, click the gain setting link in my sig.

Price means absolutely nothing since the way a speaker sounds to each person is purely subjective. Jack might like the way a $150 set of 5.25" coaxials sounds better than John's $1000 6.5" components. Best advice here is to go out and listen to a plethora of speakers to get an idea of what kind of sound reproduction you want.
