Buying car without title Friday - 96 Camaro

I found a car for sale today for 400$...its a 96 camaro z28, 5 speed. The lady lost the title for it when she moved (same state) so has no title and the car is just sitting up. From what i understand the owner has to call the DMV in with the vin and apply for a lost title, how exactly does that work? The car is in OK condition overall. Runs good it seems, no strange noises other than belt squeal. Has dual exhaust/etc. Heres whats wrong with it.

- Needs driver side door panel, possibly whole door as the outside of it is falling off too. Window is held up with piece of wood.

- Radio ripped out, bunch of wires hanging. Two touched together and made dash lights come on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

- Windshield wiper motor

- Roof liner

- Tires

- Ignition switch

I plan on getting it friday unless theres some issue with the title, all the problems are minor so they could be fixed.

ive done this before applying for a lost title is the biggest pita ever. you have to have a lawyer and post it publicly the details of your sale and if anybody says different your ****ed. so just get a salvage title and be done with it

its illegal to sell a car without a title. but hey cocaine is illegal too and its allot of fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Go to the DMV and get an MVR-4, on the front fill out for her to get a lost title. On the back fill out for her to transfer the title to you. Take her to the DMV and get it all done in one step.

Or just drive it down the road?

I got this for free, cleaned it up, rebuilt the heads and it drives me where I want to go...

EXACTLY what you need to do. You can get the form, fill it out if you have all the info, she will only need to do a little and accompany you to the DMV

$400 seems like a steal

Im pretty sure in every state a car has to be registered/insured to "legally" drive a vehicle.

I've gotten lost titles before and its actually quite easy. Just go with the lady to the DMV and fill out the necessary paperwork.
